Dunkield
INCOMING!! What's you budget Mike? Even though I own a CZ .223 I would go for a Tikka T3, or an M595 if you can still get one (which I doubt) Reason. I have a Tikka in 6.5 which few people on here have now seen and some have shot, and it is IMHO the best gun for the money, well made, great trigger (very important in my eyes) and accurate straight out of the box. Be warned decent Optilock scope rings, and you shouldn't be looking at anything other than decent rings, are very expensive so budget for them or Warnes, but either are gonna cost you circa 60 quid + Let me know if you want a decent mod for it, not one of 'those' a proper one! deadeye ive
Mike You'll get all round value for money with the Tikka ..........Although The CZ,s seem ok until you want decent scope mounts . If you decide American over europeon then make sure it's a remmington
Paul223
The tikka's are good, I have a 595 myself, also have a look at howas and rws titan3, all of these come in around the £400 to £500 mark, minsterly had a 595 stainless threaded the last time I was there, worth a call? Dunkield
what do you recommend .?? My PES T12 Stainless Short of course That's 12 baffles not 8 and thats Stainless Steel not mild steel made from recycled baked beans cans It cost me £220 and has had about 50 shots through it, so I reckon £180 would be a fair price. deadeye ive
If your going for optilocks at £85 a set forget the CZ ............I'm assuming your going down the Tikka/sako route The 8 x 56 Schmidt is no target tool but comes into it's own at night

Dead-Eyed Duck
I've had a Tikka in 0.17Rem, and currently have a Sako 75 in 0.223. In performance there is probably nothing in it. I prefer the metal magazine of the Sako, but what the heck. Also had a couple of Remmington 700's (0.223 and 22-250), and the only grouse that I had with these was that the trigger was not as good as the Tikka or Sako. Having said that the Remmi's were both accurate. Don
Dunkield
if its that good why are you selling it???? I got it to keep my CZ quiet on a permission I have, and just for that. For reason I cannot figure out (and this was confrimed again at Bisley) my CZ will not group as well as I want without a mod on it, so a mod will be a permanent feature. I want an ASE Utra, they are £280 and I can't afford, or justify one of those without flogging the PES. One thing I forgot to mention Mike, if you get a light gun sticking any mod on the end will ruin the handling, so if you insist on having a mod you are better off going for a heavier gun - you can't win really... Frank
CZ Works for me, but it is hard getting it mounts. I have sportsman match on mine, but their are CZ mounts especially made for the CZ 527, which i will be getting soon. For accuracy and value for money, in my experience and iv had a good bit with it, the CZ is hard to beat. I have fired a good few rounds out of mine now Most hit home, if held and pointed correctly. Frank.

Sorry for taking this thread off Track Mike Stuart .........have you considered the smaller and lighter T4AR..........On a personal note the slip over barrel design is far far superior because of the two points of contact with the barrel ........we all know that theses mods are for ear protection only anyway . Mike You'll find it hard on any forum to find a negative word about a Tikka

I will have a look at them, but I haven't heard one in use, but I have heard an ASE and they are the absolute dogs, hence the price I guess. And having slated Toute mods for so long that would be a bitter pill to swallow, bit like a guy I know who ended up buying a CZ, can't remeber his name right now
deadeye ive
 Try and forget about what they sound like when pulling the trigger because 100 yds down a range or a field they are loud and you'll be hard pressed to tell the difference (Laws of physics and all that ).......Why the need to swap the PES ....... IT'S SUPPOSE TO BE PROTECTING YOUR HEARING ........Save your money stuart

deadeye ive
Mike The majority of shooters anywhere have and use the br reflex series T4/8 for example ........One of it's main pluses is the removal and re-fitting with no alteration of zero . Haven't seen or heard a ASE on full bore in action but I would'nt pay a further £80 for one when my T8 performs like it should 9 out of 10 shooters can't be wrong .................forget about the rust issues as they are trivial

mry716
If you want a 222 or 223 then you should be looking at makers that manufacture a suitable sized action for that round. Sako, CZ, Zastava (now sold under the Remington name), RWS etc. It will not include Howa, Remington 700, Tikka, Ruger, Winchester, Browning etc. So out of those that are suitable which is the best? Answer is undoubtedly SAKO. So lets say we go with SAKO, but which model? Do not buy a 75, the latest model (the 85 is on the way) but look for one of the earlier two lug bolt models. Do not get the very early one because spares are now no longer available but get the model made just before the 75. Now which calibre? For most purposes the loss of 20-30 yds from 223 to 222 is more than made up by the inherent accuracy of the 222. I have yet to shoot a 222 that is not accurate. It is also a little quieter than the 223 and doesn't really need a moderator for most types of shooting. So there you are. The rifle you want /need is a Sako L491 in .222. Pay about £400-£450 and it will last the rest of your shooting life and still give you less than 1MOA when your old age forces a sale. Thats not fair, I reckon I've still got a few years yet. But I suppose its not the shooting its the bending down to pick up what you have shot that really sets a date.
