mickem
Hi All Newbie only been shooting 4 months but consistently shooting about 2ft low at targets about 25m away. Gun is a12g AYA sxs which friend who is an experienced shooter has no problems shooting. Had a BASC instructor check fit and he says it is OK. Anybody know what I'm doing wrong? Thunderbird
Yes, you're shooting too low. When you say targets, what are you shooting at? I'm assuming clays..?

mickem
Yes, you're shooting too low. When you say targets, what are you shooting at? I'm assuming clays..? Clays, rabbits, crows - basically everything. Wish it was as easy to simply shoot 2ft higher as some reasonably suggest.
Thunderbird
I wonder if it might be to do with how you're mounting the gun and therefore your relationship to the rib? Maybe where you think it's pointing and where it's actually pointing are two different things. I'd pattern it or shoot at a few cardboard boxes to see where you 'think' you're shooting. Grandalf
Give up - It's not worth the effort. Only joking. Check and practice your gun mounting.
mickem
Give up - It's not worth the effort. Only joking. Check and practice your gun mounting. This and point suggestion about comb raiser has me thinking. The comb is resting just under my cheekkbone on mount. Maybe too high?
unclestuffy
Silly question but is your eye "looking down" the barrels? Is your stance right? Are you mounting the gun properly? Before you learn too many bad habits shoot a few times with a good local coach who will sit on your shoulder on a 1 to 1 basis and help sort out your shooting issues

One coach who charges £35 per 1 hour session suggested an o/u. Sure it might improve hit rate but I'm not going to pay someone £35 to tell me that - finding a good coach is probably the way forward. rimfire4969
As suggested fire the gun at a pattern target or a couple of big cardboard boxes, this will give you a better idea of where you think you are aiming and where the shot is hitting. dougall
dont aim like an air rifle 'sight' ie forget front bead, just in periphery see some of the top rib/barrels..this gives better perspective/range judgement too. I guess your current sight picture is an 8 on its side with a dot on top? Or are you even blanking the bead out too? 2 ft low at 25 yards is not way off...no need to faff around with comb raisers/stock etc just change your sight picture. This ought to get you on it..now go spend some money on lessons with a coach at a clayground! atb
Uncle Albert
That £35.00 may,in the long run save you far more cause you could be banging away at clays and missing them for a long time. The cost is only the cost of a brick of cartridges, and think how long they last. It's far better to be taught by someone who really knows what they are doing. Everyone has to learn at first and it's so much more rewarding to be hitting the clays than missing all the time. Take a couple of lessons, it's worth it. It's a great buzz when you can smoke the clays and your enjoymant will increase, especially if you shoot with your mates.
bedwards1966
I'd pattern it first, it might help. Take an old cardboard box, and shoot it from 15 paces on a tight choke and see where it's going. It's a little odd that it's shooting low if your seeing the rib, that should make it shoot higher. Try that first and check that you are indeed low as you think you are, because it doesn't make sense to me for a gun to shoot low when your seeing rib. You probably could alter the gun to shoot higher, but I'd check it on a pattern plate first. It might then help to shoot some nice incomers and see if it's hitting those where you think. Are you pre-mounting your gun, or bringing it up when you see the target? When you pattern it, don't aim it like a rifle, point and shoot how you normally would. If you aim it the results will be different.
Uncle Albert
Or conversly stand on the boxes and shoot as normal. :D
