Ferretboy111
Anyone got or had one and think they are any good? ill be using it on my .17hmr cz which i use mostly for lamping, my current one.... hawke airmax 4-12*44 just isnt powerful enough for me to get really acurrate shots over 100yrds, i mean i can do it but it doesnt help. Any help appreciated. Alex
markbivvy
never owned a hawke scope do i dont know how good they are. but 12 x mag is plenty for 100 yds and more. unless you are shooting fly,s.
Ferretboy111
Dont mind 100yrds with 12* but would prefer something alittle more powerful for futher shots to get head shots.
deadeye ive
for accurate head shots you don't really need a high magnification .......In fact it can make things more difficult because any movement is greater amplified .

Ferretboy111
Yeah its all well and good saying that, but i think differently, i can hit an inch group at 100yrds with the 12* mag quite happily whilst target shooting, still doesnt mean its easy to. Id never be able to get as good groupings with it on 4* mag at 100yrds. Always wanted one of these scopes as all i do is shoot at night, i use a bipod so using the higher mag wont be a problem, also read on most net sites that people use 18* mag alot with the .17hmr. Also been fed up on shooting rabbits in the chest area or there abouts and having to cut a rabbit which is blown to bits. So any real views on the nite eye range of hawke scopes? Ferretboy111
What scope do you use on your .17hmr? because i go out with farmerguy.22 when lamping he takes the close shots, well out to around 60yrds and i take the others, so i usually have around 10 shots a night, be hell of a easier to aim using a IR scope so i can see the cross hairs and place the shot easily. pin
I've got 2 of them, far too much scope for what I use them for but very nice they are too. What do you want to know about them?
henry d
Just my opinion ,but I like my 4 x 32 leupold on my .22 and it`s set for 70(ish)paces[ish] and specifically for this type of scenario http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/ind...g+range+bunnies But that`s just me,if you were to increase the obj lens or decrease the mag that might help. How about trying a bit of nocturnal paper punching ? It`s a lot easier sometimes to have a fiddle about with what you`ve got than to get something that may not be any better,IMO. Best of British in either case m8
markbivvy
What scope do you use on your .17hmr? 4x12x50 on mine,no ir or mill dotts. the only time it gets on 12 is when iam doing targets and its just to check the target. use it on 6 for all my shooting, to much mag at night is not a good thing.less mag more light, bigger field of view. not haveing a go young alex but i thing you need to do a bit more time with the gun. you have had it 2 month or there abouts, if you are useing a pod and cant get head shots at 100 yds on 12x mag there is a problem. Ferretboy111
Yeah i can get head shots on 12* mag at 100yrds, with ease, as long as the rabbit sits still long enough for me to take a shot. Just always have wanted a IR hawke scope because of its advantanges, id rather pay 20 quid more for a 6-20 than a 3-12 or however much it is. Do people rate them for a decent scope? really wanted to put my other scope back where it belongs, on my Bsa Hornet .177. Ill have a ponder, its only because ive come into some money that im thinking about upgrading my setup, its either a new scope, harris bipod, or max pro gun lamp, have got a decent scope, bipod and hand held gun lamp atm but think the extras will help me out in the field to hit those longer range bunnys. deadeye ive
Alex Everybody naturally focuses on the cross air which is 6" from your eyeball and try to place it on a target or head 100 yds away instead of it being the other way round ...............look at the target with your primary vision and with the cross air in the field of view put it on the knapper but always looking 100yds ahead ............Takes time and disipline and a high mag will make it harder . Axe
Ive, thats a good tip, I know I struggle at times to find the target and that would explain why. Alex, how much is the scope? I ask as I use the Nikko Stirling Night Eater same spec, got cheap from optics warehouse and I love the scope. Good clear optics for the price. Bazooka Joe
Ferretboy111, I've a Hawke on my .22, decent scope, not the best, but good enough for the .22. It's 6-18 X 50, Ilum-Ret, clear optics. If you think that the 20 mag is to powerful, just turn it down to what ever you want, personally I like the high mag, always have, but everyone to there own. One thing is for certain, if you've got it you can turn it down, if you have'nt you wish you had......!! BJ.
Ferretboy111
Cheers Bazooka joe, yeah definately perfect for a .22 and or .17. Axe Its around 140-155 quid, for a 6.5-20*50 mil dot. Im worried about buying something from optics warehouse as the ones ive seen are makes im not educated about, have thought about it, ill have a look again and see what people think. what i dont want to do is spend all that money on something that doesnt work well, which is why i first thought about Hawke as i trust them. Axe
Fair play Alex the Hawke is priced the same as the Nikko. I can vouch for the Nikko it is a good scope, 6-24x56 30mm, it also has a saddle mounted paralax, adjustable locking turrets, IR, fine cross hair with mildots and is supplied with a 70mm sunshade. Its the one mounted on my Quad in thge pics section.
Ferretboy111
Bargain i say, a all round better scope aswell the nikko i bet, also with better magnification for the same price. Out lamping tonight which should be good, all the better with an upgraded set up though. Ill have a ponder.
