Peugot 206HDi 1.4 Would you buy?

Been looking for a car for the eldest boy after a local little **** ran into the back of his and wrote it off, done a runner but was spotted.

Looked at a few now, and there is some **** out there.

Just seen a Peugot 206 1.4 HDi diesel, 25K on the clock, looking good on a 53 plate

BUT - never been serviced. Went in for the 6K (free inspection only), but missed the 12K service and is now overdue for the 24K service.

Would anybody buy it or under the circumstances leave it there?

Would not be put off buying it, but the price should be cheaper has it will need a service.

They are very good cars a little tinny but very cheap to run with a low insurance group too

Cam belt will need changing at around 100,000 miles.

Just out of interest how much is it????

Good luck Ash. :/:/

Hiya mate

Not really a problem with todays modern diesels. I've been driving them for a few years now (diesels not pugs) and truth be told they seem pretty bulletproof. Knock the price down to take acount of the service, mot, tax costs etc. Recently done 98K in three years on a Fiat diesel that had three changes of oil, two with filter before someone side swiped it, and the bloody thing pulled like a train.

Get it checked over for faults before parting with the cash, the mechanics should be fine, be more aware of the French electrics. Merde!!!

Any more offers of advice?

Hi 30-6, i am a mechanic and MOT tester, so if there anything you 'd like to no just ask, before you buy the car check out your local papers to see what sort of money that type of car is selling for, once you've got an idea on the price of a more "normal" car, knock a £1000 of that price and see how it compares to his/her price. if you buy the car i would get the cambelt changed around 70 K for safety reasons. good luck.

Many thanks for all your replys

Had a test run in it, drove ok, looked ok but bits and bobs didn't seem right. But was thinking seriously about it. However the boy selling it is gone on holiday (his father showed it to me), and the car would not be available until September when he came back and my son needs a car ASAP, as he has just finished UNI and is now in the real world and looking for a JOB, because his mother wants lodge :)

Taken that into account we seen a 1.1 petrol 18K for £5,500 on a Oct 03 (53) plate in a Peugot dealer. One owner, no 6K inspection service but had a 20K service in April 06. Knocked him down to £5,200 with new MOT and 12 month guarantee, with all papers for HPI check and service sheet.

Didn't want to pay that much but the son is happy.

We did actually buy a 1.4HDi a couple of weeks back, to cut a long story short we test drove it and it was OK, within 20 mins of buying it literally, there was warning lights flashing, beeping stop signs, turned around took it back and had our money back.

Once again many thanks for your advice, Oh and darebare it was silver.

If he's just out of Uni, whatever you buy him is likely to get banged, dented, scraped, left overnight somewhere it shouldn't.

Get something cheaper and more robust.

Personally, I hate French and Italian cars - open and shut one of their car doors, then when you next go and help yourself to a biscuit from the tin - slam the lid down and hey presto you know what it is like to be a Renault / Fiat / Pug driver.

Why pay thousands more for doors that make a nice sound when they close ? :)

I opted out of the company car scheme and went from a Golf GTi turbo to a Pug 306 D Turbo, so I could could pocket the extra 600 quid a month and not spend it on fuel.

Anyone who thinks they are flimsy and made from tin etc etc can have a look at the pictures of the headon smash we had in mine, when some some yoof decided not to borther looking before he pulled out of a junction. Airbag deployed, car destroyed, but we walked away without a scratch and carried on to enjoy the weekends stalking we had been looking forward to all year :)
