lots of traffic is the answer..when they are moving that is....go back sit for couple of hours and just watch.Obviously we dont always go on motorways, sometimes country lanes to nice pub...but pigeons go from roost to where they are feeding along v.definite paths/lines.

they will use the flightline again, when conditions are the same, and as long as they want to feed on that particular field, i know of one flightline that they use every year for last 21 years when the birds are in the area, and another for the last 12 years at a certain time of year.

how to spot one is to sit and watch for as while and see if birds are flighting from a certain spot to a certain spot and if they are flighting regular say a bird every 3-5 mins or so its worth a go at them

Flightline's work well when the birds are flocked together , not so much when they have young. This is my theory , the birds that have fed well go to roost early , they digest the food overnight , in the morning they are the first to leave as they are hungry and go back to the good food field. The others in roost then follow and you have a flight line . In the summer when they have young they will go to the food field from the nest site so you end up with a multiple flight lines .

Doing "the recce" is one of the most important aspects of pigeon shooting

It is, but don't delay to long though! I have been watching a field of standing wheat that has a few small blow holes in it for the last 3 days. Was planning on shooting it Sat am as there are a lot of birds starting to build. Went today for a final look and someone is set up there!! On the plus side they are not getting many shots so it might still be ok for tomorrow?
