DO you not need to apply for an FAC prior to buying the gun? http://www.psni.police.uk/advice_firearms_know_the_law Edited July 16, 2012 by HDAV
SneakyD
DO you not need to apply for an FAC prior to buying the gun? No, here you buy the gun, then ask for permission to have it.
HDAV
No, here you buy the gun, then ask for permission to have it. hmmm ok from: http://www.psni.police.uk/index/advice-and-legislation/firearms/advice_firearms_know_the_law.htm Know the Law The Firearms (NI) Order 2004 states that, unless exempted, a firearm certificate is required for the purchase and possession of firearms and ammunition in Northern Ireland. This makes it an offence for any person to purchase, acquire or have in their possession, a firearm or ammunition without holding a valid firearm certificate. One firearm certificate is issued to an individual to licence all approved firearms in their possession. So how does that work then? You buy it, take it home then ask for permission to shoot it, but you can own it and walk out of the shop with it before getting an FAC? They give you a two part receipt, one part you keep, the other part goes with your application. If your fac is granted you take it to the shop and they give you your gun. It's a **** system. HDAV
What happens if you don't get FAC? Or change your mind? For once it seems the system here is better. So once you have bought an air rifle for example how do you then get a .22LR? Edited July 16, 2012 by HDAV
SneakyD
What happens if you don't get FAC? Or change your mind? If you don't get FAC, you get a refund. If you change your mind, they keep your money (more likely they'll sell your gun for you on consignment, taking their usual fee). So once you have bought an air rifle for example how do you then get a .22LR? You buy the .22LR, then apply for the variation. For once it seems the system here is better. Other than handguns, your system is better in every way.
T-Bolt94
All you need to know about applying for your FAC is here http://www.psni.police.uk/firearms I recently applied for my FAC and it took 5 weeks from submission to receipt. My advice is have you gun cabinet installed prior to your FEO visit/interview as it speeds up the process because the FEO won't have to return to inspect your storage arrangements. If you are applying for a rifle with a removable bolt it must be stored else where ideally in a safe along with rifle ammo. Also, if obtaining a rifle make sure the land you have permission to shoot on your FAC App is suitable in terms of acerage and public areas I would suggest 300+ acres. IF you need any guidance ring your local PSNI Station and ask for the FEO (Firearms Enquiry Officer) Hope this helps you out to some extent! T-Bolt94
I noticed that myself, seen a few young ones knocking about the road sides but that's about it. How do you go about getting permission on the likes of Lough Neagh? is it all wildfowling clubs that you need to be a member of, I am fairly new into shooting in terms of having my own gun plenty of experience with my dad a while back. I originally got permission from a farmer to shoot in his field. The field was on the lough, a wildfowling syndicate had the shooting rights for his pond and lough front. I met a couple of the wildfowlers, whilst I was out shooting and was invited to join the syndicate. It's pretty tough here, but whenever you're out shooting speak to people you meet it's a good way to find new opportunities

Little in the way of Bunnes which is a shame, such a waste of a round on a pigeon I guess that's what the 12G is for
