The shower i work for have a training dept at Kemble. You can get so far but that`s it, you won`t get to the actual airfield if something is going on. When i was there a couple of years ago one of the F1 teams were testing on the airstrip. You could see from a distance but i suppose health and safety and all that .........

Access to the Airfield is actually pretty easy if you know the right people ;) ...ive been shooting in the area for over 30 years. Wife used to work for the MOD and American AF there..and her dad was chief ground crew technician for the Red Arrows before that.

Ive been up there when Williams and others have been testing and much of Top Gears road tests and other burn ups are filmed there also. Often see that ******** Clarkson and the Gerbil or Ratty or whatever his name is lurking somewhere nearby..even saw the Stig through my bins without his helemt on once and No! it wasnt Michael Shumaker.

A rather ignominious end to an old bird . Might well have flown on that old girl . She's taken thousands of people safely around the world in her time .RIP.

Harnser .

Yes I must admit to mixed feelings on the sheer violence of it all but needs must. Good to know your coke/beer/bean tin (or bike!) might have once jetted around the globe.

I think the 200 series was the last 747 to have a flight engineer, though I might be wrong, all analogue gauges too.
