breeze
Hello this is my first post on PW. Have been watching these fields of wheat for a few days now and the pigeons have been landing on the flat patches. Next to the wheat is a cut and cleared grass field. I was hopeing i could shoot them over the grass field but wiil they go to the decoys on the grass even tho they have been feeding on the wheat? Or Should i put the decoys on the wheat? Was hopeing for a good day on saturday!
Cranfield
If you can decoy over the laid wheat, without causing too much damage to the crop, that would be the best place IMO. Is it possible to set up where the two fields meet and have your decoys on the wheat, but shoot the birds coming in over the grass (that stops you having to go into the wheat too often picking up dead birds). breeze
Thanks, I can decoy on the wheat and the grass is on the other side of the fence so ill give it go. is it best to put the decoys in the exact flat where they've been landing or should i find another spot thats not so active and try to draw them. Shooting Tom
put the decoys on the flap area where they are hitting. just put out a magnet and some floaters a just a few decoys try to keep the landing zone free.

motty
If i were you i'd try with decoys on the grass field first - less chance of losing birds and means you won't have to wade through the wheat. Make sure any decoys you use are easily seen from all directions. If this doesn't work - although i suspect it will - then try the decoys on the wheat.
