My mate bought a winchester earlier in the week, I cant remember the model but it's in excellent condition and didn't cost as much as it should have. I think he's decided he shouldn't have got it because he's happy with the gun he was using and has offered it to me for what he paid for it. It's a trap gun strictly speaking, has a stepped rib and also has ported barrels (porting about 2" back from the end) and looks a lot like his miroku 3800 (I want it for the pigeons and occasional clays but if it works for me, why not?). If I get on well with it at the weekend I'll have it and have either it's chokes opened up a bit (it's 3/4 and full currently) or have it converted to multi-choke.

Any ideas what it would cost to have the work done? And which would you do, have the chokes altered or have it multi-choked (I assume teague aren't the only people who can do this)?

Any opinions on the gun itself, if you can work out what it is from what I've said?

It sounds like it could be a 6500 these came in trap and sporters, but dont quote me on it,if it is these are good guns but parts are no longer available unless its really cheap imho i would pay more and buy a multi choke, something parts are there if you need them.

The cost to have it converted to multi-choke won't be much less than the cost of the gun. It just isn't worth having it done.

Probably one of these - the 8500. The one in the advert looks overpriced to me.

They are excellent handling guns - equal to Beretta and browning / Miroku.

Resale values are not brilliant. You have difficulty with spare parts and ported barrels are a negative - when selling.

It is (I think) £400 and in good to very good condition. Obviously though, to get it "teague'd" would near double the price. I believe I can have the fixed chokes altered for about £40 per barrel?

Thanks all, Better informed now but still not sure what to do - Perhaps the best thing to do would be to see how I get on with the gun :ermm:

well instead of chopping a few thou out the tube and handing it back to you, they pattern the gun at a range with a specific cartridge and adjust until it you get the correct pattern. Then instead of changing chokes you change the cart, pattern is a combination of choke and cartridge load i am sure someone can answer better than me
