Richard V
Hey all, Phonecall from the FEO today. Visit arranged for Monday afternoon, SGC application sent on the 2nd this month via 2nd class post so very fast (IMO) to go to the visit bit, well done Cheshire Constabulary A couple of questions, Providing he's happy with the cabinet, etc, will he give the SGC there and then? Should I dress in a shirt and trousers or doesn't that matter? Any questions they will ask I need to know about? Many thanks Richard
BerettaSV10
Depending on the area most will post your certifficate to you, which can take a week upwards. No need to be in a suit, but would say don't dress in rags, just dress smart and casual, there again I just had my reasonable work cloths on. The interview is a relaxed talk to see what you are like, have the tea and bickies ready . He / she will probally ask you about gun safety, dangers of mixing 20 & 12 bore cartridges together. What shooting experiance you have had, where and what you intend to shoot ie clays or game and vermin as well. Always worth a mention if you hve had any lessons or have some booked and at what ground. They will look around the house to double check your security and the cabinates location and its fixing. Will go through your application form if you declared any thing or if you missed some thing off it. They will probally say at the end of the interview if you have passed the checks and SGC will be posted later on.
Glenshooter
Open your cabinet door and give it a good shake/shove/pull to check the wall bolts are secure. Sometimes they can 'loosen' after the intital fitting.
TrapFiller
Mine took about one week to get their after the interview. He may ask you about safety ( mine was going to but i work down a shoot so he knew i knew the basics) and just dress as someone said in smart casual and you'll be taking pop shoots at the clays or whatever in no time. :good:

Richard V
Many thanks for the replies, the dress is strictly weekend only, I'm in a nice flowery number as I type this I might just stay in my work clothes, nothing mad. Cabinet has been shaken (not stirred) and it's secured. Just got to tidy the place up now (I live on my own and no woman to clean for me  ) cheers Richard

I know the guy as well so it's not like a first impression but I think it's worth doing. If you take pride in your house then maybe you take pride in your shooting/safety , that was my train of thought? Get some of these too Boasters,,,, Hobnobs are useless next to these haha

Richard V
A quick 10 minute affair, no tea/biscuits required. A few questions regarding any convictions/medical problems (luckly none), past experiance, a quick check on the cabinet, ending with him syaing that he sees no reason why I shouldn't have a shotgun and the SGC should be with me within a couple of weeks. Thanks for all your help

Hope that you dont have to go through this mental torture ! doin me nut in Oh no 5 months is a bit naughty, I assume you've been chasing the FEO over it? Your file has probably been eaten by the bureaucratic monster called "paperzilla". Paperzilla works off this equation - (x*10)+6 (where x is how long a particular job should take in the real world), you usually find it in local councils, government departments, and the like. Grown massively in numbers since 1971 it's native area is the European Parliament and associated EU institutions. Which force area are you in? Richard V
Thats good, now the shopping begins , 10 mins thats doing well mine was more like an hour. I'm promising myself to first attend a safety course and shooting lesson on the 11th August first, and do a few sessions with different hired/borrowed guns before buying my own gun and using it unsupervised/with friends. I want to avoid chopping and changing. Well thats the theory anyway  I was suprised at the length of the interview myself. I could of bladdy done it in my dinner hour instead of taking the afternoon off. He diddn't check the windows or doors, only the cabinet. Asked if I knew anybody who's been arrested and I thought where do I draw the line? I know of someone (havent seen him for a few years) who was imprisoned for GBH so should I mention that? Nobody who I see regular or seen recently have been so I just answered "not as far as I know". Double checked about carrying the gun on a motorbike (no car), yep, happy with that. Where to store carts? Yeah just in your cabinet will be fine I'd rather they be stored hidden away from the gun myself but hey ho maybe I'm overreacting. Usual key can be on my main key chain, spare key should be in a keypad safe (as opposed to my mother or someone with a SGC/FAC). He's the professional so safe (bolted down) it is. I think he's determined I'm not a bank robbing nutter and fairly sensible so fingers crossed it doesn't take 20 weeks like 2244tone :(
2244tone
I,m in hampshire sent off for a SGC only at the end of Jan. Saw the FEO mid march made 3 calls to the firearms dep last was about 5 weeks ago they just said there was a backlog and couldn,t say how much longer it would be!i,m no bank robber either not had so much as a parking ticket in 14 years and i,v had both SGC and FAC in the past but gave them up about 15 years ago!bad choice made then i think. At least i can asume that it hasn,t been turned down cos i,m sure i would have had that letter by now  Good luck with yours fella just hope your not in Hampshire

I echo the sentiment on here that firearms licensing needs to be uniform nationally as opposed to this postcode lottery we have now. It's mad that if I lived about 7 miles to the east, I would have my SGC in 2 weeks from Manchester, if I lived 2 miles north the waiting time would probably completely different to Manchester and Cheshire as it would be Lancashire, and if I lives 3 miles to the west the waiting time would probably be different to Manchester, Cheshire and Lancashire as it would be Merseyside (South it's Cheshire for many, many miles) I believe Hampshire and South Wales arn't good places to be is you're a shooter judging by the posts on here. I hope you get your ticket soon Edited July 23, 2012 by Richard V
