Hi all, just a quick queerie, my land is passed of for rim fire and suitable for hmr. It's quite a large area I have no idea how many acres or how to estimate it. I do know it's 1 and a half boxes on a os grid. What I was asking is could I request that the land be re checked say for 222 or 22 hornet as I could do with the range they offer with out the problems wind can cause a hmr. if so what would be the best way to go about it ? Thanks.

Karl.

When I first got my ticket a probationer FEO would only consider clearing land for the caliber requested.

More recently an experienced FEO cleared land for the cal that would be applicable rather than the cal I was asking it to be cleared for. If you are confident the land is suited for an increased caliber then ask for it to be checked again.

This is why its a good idea to call all land on max allowable calibre rather than what the applicant actually wishes to use. Land checks are becoming a stale joke nowadays, inspected by non shooters, without the applicant present  The old way was meet the applicant on site and question him on were they thought it was safe and unsafe and why. A lot of FEO's are now incapable of doing this. Leads back to the same old "no land is safe" discusion only the shooter or the shot taken

Dave, thats what happened to some of my land, only got cleared for what I asked for, might of been the same FEO.

It just seemed odd to me that my land would only be cleared for rimfire when it's ideal for a center fire given the large expanse and good back drops. I think I will go for the variation on a like for like using my hmr slot and see what the outcome is. The decision is what caliber to go for. It's only for rabbit and the odd fox if needed ou to ranges of 250 yards max.

So 22 hornet looks the one to go for just looking at costs and figures alone. Any input in this would be apreasiated :)
