lewis2012
Hi all as above i have my interview for FAC booked for the next week ive applied for a 17hmr + mod for humanly dispatching rabbits at long distances 100yds + as the land i already have permission on for my shotgun (Land already cleared for a larger calibre) has a problem with rabbits and i cant get close enough with the 12g. Would this be a good enough reason to aquire a 17hmr? Also is there a chance i could be issued with a 17hmr on first FAC? My local force ( bridgend ) did state that they would not impose conditions like mentoring on a rimfire as of that of a centrefire. Ive always shot air rifles etc + fired a few live ammo guns on range with sea cadets etc + dad is ex forces so i was tought to set my own scopes at 8yrs of age. I know were talking a different kettle of fish but i am safminded ensuring backstops etc as i do with my shotgun Also anyone else have any tips of anything? Thanks all Lewis
Cottonseed
You're worrying unduly. I'm sure you'll be fine. Your experience with airguns and shotgun, plus the cadets experience and your dad's safety tuition put you well ahead of the average applicant. Chill out! blackbird
Dyfed Powys now insist on mentoring with any new FAC Rimfire included but as for what you have stated in your post you have no problems geting your ticket.

bedwards1966
You've every reason to be granted it, you have the good reason required. The worst they might ask is that you get shown the ropes by another shooter before being granted a certificate, but it's not likely and not usually a problem. As to the interview, just relax. They're normally friendly and helpful, and will ask a few questions to check you aren't a psycho with drink, drug and family issues. They'll tell you about safe gun handling, the paperwork side of things and so on. It's all quite easy.

Olliesims
A 17.hmr isn't really a issue for a grant the police class it as a smaller calibre than a .22 altho the .17 packs a much more powerful punch and has a longer range, for my .17 I said I wanted it to take rabbits and longer ranges and to be guaranteed a humane kill at those distances, just be yourself and you will be fine
