rapid basher
i no this has probley been asked more times then can be rememberd but here it it go"s! i have been granted some new permission witch includes a 16 acre feild with a river running down the side (but) its a public footpath down the side, i was wondering would i be best to decoy in feild 60/100yrds away from the river,, or on the river it self but this would involve me being right on the public footpath or is it just a no go thanks rb
southeastpete
how well used is the footpath? it is not illegal to shoot on, over or next to a footpath. Obviously though, endangering the public, or causing a public nuisance etc is. If it is a rarely used footpath, crack on, pop a sign at either end saying shooting taking place, beware sudden bangs. If it is v busy, its probably a no go, just from the amount of grief you would get, even if you stayed well within the law.
rapid basher
thanks southeastpete i dont think it would be very busy at dusk or dawn as that would be the best time to decoy it right?
southeastpete
I think so from what i have read, but am not a wildfowler. Are there alot of ducks about? maybe a rough shoot style would work? just walk the length of it, and try flush a couple out?
Livefast123
You will have to find out who owns the rights to the river if you wish to decoy there, could be the landowner but it could equally be a angling club etc.

HW682
It is illegal to shoot OVER a footpath Do you mean over a path that runs through the land you have permission/rights to shoot; or over a path onto someone elses land? If the former...you might want to read this. http://www.basc.org....24BA94A9790765C edit to mention that this is a BASC guide to shooting, Rights of way and acess etc. It explains the situation quite well. The link is the England and Wales version. there is a Scottish version as well. Edited September 3, 2012 by HW682
Cranfield
I think it would be less controversial to try to shoot the ducks as they make their way to and from the river. Regardless of your "rights", shooting ducks on a river next to a footpath, will only end up in you suffering a shedload of grief.
JonathanL
It is illegal to shoot OVER a footpath It isn't, as far as I'm aware. J.
Cottonseed
It is illegal to shoot OVER a footpath If we're talking about a public footpath it is not illegal to shoot over them. Half the game shoots in Britain would be ****** if that were true--and that's why it's not illegal to do so.
