terrior
Hello Recently started shooting in the field and just wanted peoples thoughts on the maximum distance shot can travel . I was keeping 250 to 300 yards away from any paths or possible danger. Is this too far or not far enough. (usually no6 32 gr shells) thanks.................................. humperdingle
That's about right, but a high wind can carry shot a fair distance.
hutchie the white hunter
Yip 300yds but the lower number of shot i.e. 42g 3 can and will fallout much further especially with a tail wind 32gram 6 is not going to severely injure someone over say 100yrds but the last thing you want is shot raining down on the public or houses this will get you into bother so better safe than sorry, not worth the hassle
pboro shot
i thourght the same untill recently, farmer told me he was haveing shot land in his back garden it was almost 400yds from my hide 6/32g plus the wind was in the wrong direction to aid distance i would say more space between you and roads /houses the better only takes a passer by to get a little shot drop on them and a call to the police and it could get complicated
Double Trouble
The positioning of certain fields does make this awkward, and annoyingly you have to let some opportunities pass you by for fall-out reasons. Work out your safe field of fire whilst you are in the hide and if necessary only stand up to shoot down upon pigeons that are landing amongst your decoys
robbiep
About 15 years ago, some shot landed on my car (I was in the garden next to it at the time). Thankfully it caused no damage, and just bounced off the paintwork. The gun was close on 500 metres away when fired, myself and the lad out shooting were both amazed that No. 6 shot could carry that far
Harnser
A difinitive test on how far shot could travel was done a few years ago . No 6 shot could under ideal conditions travel 280 yards ,no 7 shot could travel 260 yards . Clay grounds now have to have a 300 yard safty zone . Harnser .
