Hello all!!

I have been away from pigeon shooting for a while and used to shoot at a farm in Kent. Was wondering if anyone has any luck in selling shot pigeon in Kent i know there is a game dealer near maidstone but i am further north and its a bit far to go for a few quid. Anyone ever sold to restaurants?

I am looking a starting up again now i have a work life balance and some free time!!!

Appreciate any help

If you are north of Maidstone I can't help you with Game Dealers, all mine are well south of Maidstone.

Its usually only the Game Dealers that take the big numbers of birds, but restaurants may take less, but usually pay more.

The best advice is to look around your area and then knock on the restaurants doors and ask.

Some independant Butchers will also take them.

Pub restaurants are worth a try, especially the "private" ones,,,, if there are any :lookaround:

Any place that's quite remote is always worth asking at. Just look at their menu's or phone and ask ;)

Village butchers too ?

good luck

Not being a party pooper here but I keep reading advice like ask around pubs and restaurants but surely unless they actually have pigeon on their menu they won't just suddenly jump at the chance? Nor will they be prepared to add a dish only to find their weekend shooter can't get the birds in every time he goes out?! The last time I saw pigeon on a restaurant menu was at Whitstable around 20 years ago and that was because a mate of mine was best friends with the owner.

I used to be a chef, before i started shooting (i have time to shoot now). I would frequently have shooters and fishermen at the door with the days bag, in the village pubs where their were plenty of shoots normally they had a couple of beers on us and that's all most would ask for. The trendier gastropubs didn't have the "locals" as the emphasis is on food so we used to pay for game and fish at the door then. I used to love it and so will most real chefs. An opportunity to put something different on the specials board would never go amiss.

It's called a back door deal for a reason and the local health inspector wouldn't be pleased if he found out.
