Wildfowler12
Afternoon, I had a jam with my pump yesterday. 1st time the s'nova has failed. Although on closer inspection I'm wondering if the cart was to blame... Here is the culprit, a 3 1/2' Mammoth Steel BB from Gamebore. You can see where the brass has split, it got stuck in the extractor claw and wouldn't pump free. Has anyone seen this before, or any ideas why it happened? Cheers
slated
To be honest, I wouldn't have put that cartridge in my gun. did you find it on the beach?
pigeon pete
they look a bit old ,do you have the same probs with new carts ,if so it could be your extractor is a bit sharp ??
Wildfowler12
Believe it or not, that was NEW out of the box last week. It's been on my belt for 2 visits to the marsh only. The salty environment makes em rusty in hours. I should have dried it properly after the first week. And no, never had the problem before, and I put a few more though afterwards without issue. pigeon pete
you dont know your own strength then wen you pump that gun lol ,best just keep an eye out if it happens again ,might pay to look at the extractor it might be stuck shut and damaging the rim first when you slam it shut ,
Guest cookoff013
they probly started reducing the thickness of the steel heads. make em cheaper. it looks awful thin.
kent
That cartridge fired? yet failed to eject? am i correct? looks like a pressure issue has forced the shell back onto the ejector groove. If i am correct get the gun checked by a proper gunsmith for correct headspacing or any other issues, take the case with you. If nothing found send the case to gamebore and see if they can tell you more. BTW you could do with scapping some of your old rusty tops, i am having to throw a beltfull away following a swimming session on friday. Its not worth the risk with steel shells
M.I.A
I had this with some 3" bb's in my auto some time ago, out Of a whole box it must of done this 3 or 4 times! Did it take some force to extract it?
Wildfowler12
Thanks for the advice fellas, I will be contacting gamebore about it. I'm not particularly clued up on cartridge components etc but I wondered if it was an overly pressured load? (Hope that makes sense, terrible grammar )

snarepeg
They are cheap quality cases, pressure issue combines with thin brass head, had it myself but as said the rust could have been a factor acting like an abbrasive to your chamber. john. tigger
I had a super nova and if I put any even mildly rusty carts in there they were a bitch to eject I used to just use a little bit of wire wool on them for a couple of seconds and never had any more problems.... Wildfowler12
I think i'll have to stop wearing a cartridge belt on the marsh. I read an article in SG that suggested storing them in food bags to keep the salty air off them. Anyway, gamebore are investigating currently and have said they'll get back to me. (Probably to say, the cartridge was rusty so shouldn't have been used)
Lord Geordie
My escort used to eat the brass on the 3 & 1/2" magnums 66g carts. The extractor would damn near pull the base from the case.
Wildfowler12
Got a reply from gamebore today... ''Thank you returning the case, we received this morning. I can confirm that there is no evidence of over pressure in the cartridge and they will be safe to shoot.''
