Magnum 3
Has anyone tried pattern testing Hevi-Shot recently. I am thinking of loading some 2 ounce shells but the shot seems a weird shape to give a good pattern

motty
Has anyone tried pattern testing Hevi-Shot recently. I am thinking of loading some 2 ounce shells but the shot seems a weird shape to give a good pattern The shape of the shot has very little bearing on pattern. Hevishot through open chokes should give the best patterns.
hillmouse
The shot looks like grit or cheap breakfast cereal but it is seriosuly good stuff. Open chokes seem to suit it and pattern best.

tigger
It certainly looks as though it shouldn't pattern well but I have tried it and it patterns tighter than some lead cartridges I've patterned as has been said open chokes are best not a lot walks away from it that's for sure

Donkey
I pattern tested 10 gauge home loads a few years ago no 2 shot 1 3/4 Oz with longshot powder through a rem sp10 at 50 yards with open chokes This was the early shot that seemed to have more of the Nipply little bits on the pellets than they do now I have also tested 12g 1oz no 6 and 7 1/2 2 3/4 loads Patterns are really tight and in the 12g exceptionally tight so started putting spreaders in the wads to open up the patterns a bit I cannot find the pictures I took of the results
Magnum 3
Thanks all The general sense of opinion seems to be it is good gear. I must admit I thought a round shape would fly more true than the shape of this Hevi-Shot. I was lucky enough to have bought some 12 bore cartridges cheaper than it would cost to buy the Hevi-shot. So I have decanted it to load into 10 bore. Also bought 1500 Bismuth rounds which have gone the same way, ready for the duck.
