Dave-G
Christened it this morning. I misjudged the range of the first shot but made up for it on the second and third. As usual I could see much better detail that the recording captures and being as my PC don't seem to like editing mpeg-4 despite trying two different bits of software I might have to limit the recording I do. Upside of that is I get to see even better images on a plain LCD monitor. The IR source is a 1w drop-in jobbie of eBay.

Dave-G
Ha yes. That's part of the point of this home brew rig in that it is mostly not needed. As the missed shot demonstrated I had misjudged the range and was still too far away from the bunny to see enough detail without the IR. The learning curve has shown that if I can see the head clearly without Ir then I am likely to be within range of my FAC air rifle. I had clearer vision than that seen on the YouTube clip. The rig is a Watec 902H low light camera based one without using a day scope. It utilises an electronic crosshair generator that is overlayed on the video. More can be found about this NV rig on the '####.com' DIY nightvision section or the nv section of the AGF. EDIT: Strewth - I hadn't realised other forums were swearing on here. Dave-G
I could see much better detail than the recording produces, especially by the time it's hosted on youtube. Black and white low light is notoriously difficult to record clean imaging without using any artificial light. I'm unaware of anyone else making a home brew night vision set up capable of being used to shoot 50 yards + without IR illumination and thought it might have been of interest. Sorry to have disapointed you guys. Edited October 27, 2012 by Dave-G

Catweazle
That's the best picture I've seen for ages, top marks for ingenuity, less than top marks for artistic impression

Dave-G
I'm/we're not enabled to go back and replace the video with an edited one, but here's a tad more about how the rig has come to life for me. I should add that much of the first video was to show me slowly approaching the three rabbits with the rifle sitting down into the door mirror bracket of my 4WD from over 100 yards away. When I went off to the right I was having to steer away from a ditch to my left. I just wish I could show how good the image is that I can see.
