at that budget its either a pulsar or an archer to my mind, if you ever come down this way you're more than welcome to have a go with my archer, the plus point if you have a few rifles is its easy to swap about. I like the higher magnification and the fact if I am up a high seat I use a normal scope till dusk and then just pop the archer on and carry on. My only negatives with the pulsars is I don't like foxing with a low mag scope with the archer at 200 yards I will often have it quite well wound up and in fact it starts at 10x as it doubles my scope mag but that is less of an issue with NV compared to a lamp as you rarely have to take rapid shots as the fox is oblivious to your presence.

the other thing with the archers is they are simple and have a UK manufacturer so any problems it can go back and they will repair them. Even out of warranty problems they can fix and pretty reasonably.

Nice landowner mate.

At that sort of funding you could get yourself a 750 and include the newton cvr640 that is made to fit on it to show him what you're doing with it.

I have a Pulsar N750 on a Browning Hmr - I have a Dr Bobs Doubler fitted which takes the mag up to 7x & 11.25x - I don't use the onboard doubler as I never feel the need & the image quality isn't brilliant !

I use an IR led torch I put together myself & the picture quality if very good - I can easily see Rabbits out to 200yds & Foxes 250-300yds I have also removed the diffuser from the built in laser - it's now much clearer but I prefer my IR torch.

It has accounted for many Rabbits & several Foxes since harvest this year.

Having lived with an N550 I wouldn't buy another Pulsar, I've had a number of issues. With your budget I'd go for the Archer. Beware burning out an image intensifier. House lights, car lights, even a full moon over time can burn the tube out which will not please the landowner. The light-safe capability of digital is its greatest advantage. Digi NV may well be the way things will go but I don't think the Pulsar is the finished article. I can see an arms race taking off with this technology which is great in the long run but a good way to loose money in the short term. I'd wait and see how digi developes and stick to the tried and tested in the meantime. Its a pity you didn't say £5000, you could have had a longbow then.

I've a feeling your landowner may be on your case if he sees a single rabbit/fox after he's bought you a sight, so no pressure...

Ok light isn't as bad as made out street lights and TE moon won't burn assuming you don't leave it pointed at a bright source. If you use a tight beam on the laser it can over time though. The archer has a means of closing down the lense aperture so you can use it in low light and bright moonlight without issues.
