Stuntman
Hello chaps, I've seen a couple of links in the past about home brew NV setups, however I can't seem to find them now. I think they used a 7" reversing camera and a few other bits, mainly from china/hong kong etc Does anyone have any links that they have saved as I really fancy making a homebrew setup to see how it goes Cheers Andi
bi9johnny
Mine was made using a video camera and ir lamp on the top
stubby
my bits came via evil bay all uk sellers, total cost £52.50 although I'm using my normal red filtered lamp with IR perspex disc held in with red filter, works great and has accounted for quite a few bunnies
FalconFN
Sony video camera for me. Much quicker and easier (and in my case cheaper) than making one. I've just got a new 320 mW ir laser for less than 30 quid and it works very well and much easier to carry around than my 12v battery and spot. FalconFN
Do you have a link for the ir laser mate Here's the link: http://odicforce.com/shop/article_OFL351/320mW-Focusing-830nm-Infrared-(IR)-Laser-Module-(16mm).html?sessid=7HnEWC9XDrdDuvVEH1CTKdEb9oW1L9cQQtSrGIgsX5TKNP92OIerD2LIL7vTWaG5&shop_param=cid%3D42%26aid%3DOFL351%26 They have a couple to choose from but I went for the higher output one (which is also cheaper) and I added a 2 AA battery holder as a 3v power source. I should say that although it gives a very good output the light isn't very clean as you can just about see some circular shapes in the viewfinder. Also the first one I bought failed after a short while but it was replaced very quickly and with no fuss, and this one seems fine so hopefully it was a one off. ging125
What is the best sony camcorder to use in nightshot mode? want to but second hand! Its for 243 so 150yd range with IR illuminator/ laser Edited March 7, 2013 by ging125
Davyo
I suppose you could use a digital camera (ONE WITH FULL SCREEN ON BACK)& purchase a IR ILLUMINATOR,there would be no need for cables as both illuminator & camera would use their own batteries, most digital camers have a night shot mode and can pick up IR light (easy test is turn on digi camera and point your tv remove at lense & press any button on remote & if you see a light then the camers is IR SENSITIVE.) use a bit of tubing for fixing the camera to the rear of scope(or purchase seben dka2 bracket of flea bay).A little adusting the focus on the camera & the scope to ensure the crosshairs fills the view screen, also the other advantage is that the screen is direcly in line with the scope. Joe99
Most, if not all CCD based cameras are sensitive to IR light - the manufacturers install a filter over the sensor to block the IR. With many cameras it is a failry simple task to remove the filter, providing you can disassemble/reassemble the camera succesfully. I use a IR modded camera for astrophotography, and use a bracket such as this one http://www.teleskop-express.de/shop/product_info.php/info/p219_Digiklemme---Universal-Digital-Camera-Adaptor.html to attach the camera to the telescope eyepiece. I'm sure something similar could be used to attach a modded camera to the eyebell of a riflescope.
