steve_b_wales
You are going to get a million and one replies to why you should/should not buy the Hatsan Escort. The first models that were made were indeed pretty awful, with lots of problems with them. They have improved since, and the newer ones are excellent, as long as you look after them, keeping them clean etc. I'll send you a link to my Youtube clip of me shooting my FAC 8 shot. Steve. timmy1146
Good guns for the price. Got mine a few years back for £299 NEW. Never jammed. I've put everything through it ranging from 21 gram 65mm shells all the way up to 00 buckshot and 50 gram 3 inch magnums. And NO it didn't jam shooting the 21 gram shells. Had a few double feeds with the 65 mm shells but that was down the to shell disconncter spring needing replaced, easy fix! I had a go at not cleaning it for a while to see if it jammed, over 1000 rounds later it still shot fine so i gave up trying to get it to fail and cleaned it. Look after them and keep them clean they will shoot just a good as any beretta. I've beat people shooting clays with my escort and they've had benelli's and perazzi's. Don't listen to all the haters on the forum who say hatsans are ****, their not!
Dekers
Same old same old, mine works so they are brilliant, mine doesn't so they are ****. There can be few who have such a down on the Hatsan as me, you sort of get that way when after half of the first box of carts goes through it the barrel blows up! That was at the extreme end of problems but there have been many others who experienced grief. Somehow, Hatsan and Edgar Bros, survived the never ending pile of returns, and design/technical changes and better QA have led to an improved state with the Hatsan. Just be very cautious of early guns! See, wasn't I nice!
cumbrian shooter
Ive had 3! 2 of which were absolutely ****!! 1of the 3was a brilliant gun and never had any probs even after a couple thousand shells through it! And is still going strong! BUT i would never buy another!! If i were you id take retromlc up on his 303!! Much better than any escort, iv owned a 303 and they are well made and reliable also nice to look at! And they will still run with the best of the autos coming out now! edge007
ive just bought a second hand one from someone on gunstar - had 2 shots, downed 2 pigeons then it all jammed up. It now wont cycle, the button on the side to bring the action forward to load wont work, so have to push it forward manually, and then the firing pin wont even set a cartridge off !! The guy was selling it for a friend that had passed away so he didnt know if it worked ok. He said hes going to give me my money back so cant fault him there. It however has put me off Hatsans!! This sounds like the shotgun needed a damn good clean, and it probably never had one by the previous owner. It's true that older versions of the Escort were terrible, but as I've said before, the newer models are far better, and, if cleaned and looked after, will work properly. Yes it was filthy - looked like it had never been cleaned, loads of mud, and crud everywhere - i cleaned it thoroughly but still wouldnt load with the button on the side. Im taking it back on Saturday which i thought was very noble of him. Where would i have stood if he wouldnt of been a decent bloke?

But don't let this put you off buying an Escort. They are good value for money (the newer ones) Mine is a 4 year old FAC version, and it's been excellent. It's only ever jammed when I used 65mm cartridges. Using 70mm (2 3/4) it has cycled them perfectly. Steve.
cleaner4hire
Ive just bought a new version and it cycles 21's up with no dramas. Its just a good tool that I can abuse without too many concerns about damage.

Same with mine it does not like 65 mm carts appears to be 50 / 50 on jamming, put 250 67 mm carts through it jammed once, with 70 mm carts not a problem, though its still new and bedding in. Cleaned the gas ports out for the first time yesterday surprised there was virtually no muck in the ports, barley staind the pipe cleaner. BellySlater
Right, here's my "two penneth....." Cheap and effective, i've owned mine from new and its twelve months old (extended coke version with the updated gas piston). 1) As with all guns - check the choke is fitted tightly, i check this a couple of times during my day out 2) I appreciate it's not for everyone but CLEAN IT - you can strip one of these down (including trigger set) in minutes. Clean and lube after every use if you can 3) Pattern it, the spread seems totally different to my other guns, If you know what pattern its throwing out you will be more confident 4)If you've got nothing to do give it another clean ! I have been very impressed with mine, I only use Clear Pigeon 32 6's and it eats them all day long. Go for it !
