High wind woodies

After all the rain we have had over the last few days was fairly sure the birds would be hungry .so after a chat with a mate we headed out today to a tip off of birds in good numbers on a small rape field . dont like going blind but farmer is fairly good when he says there are birds 9 times out of 10 there is . We arrived with a strong wind blowing but the wind was not good for us with it being smack in the face .

We set up putting the decoys some 45 yards out in 2 groups of 15 in each and 3 turbo flapers and 2 peckers out . The light began to show and the wind got up some more .

The first birds were in huge gangs of 300 plus and carried on by then around 8am they started to decoy but they were hard work .My mate is a very good shot most of the time and even he was having trouble .

It slowed around 10am with any birds coming going just to wide so we put out 3 floaters and the magnet ,this made loads of difference bringing all that entered the field straight to the pattern text book style . by 3pm it was dead so called it a day with a good bag .

Ended with 78 picked 4 lost over hedge in the stream (more like river ) and 1 silly magpie

Finished the day off with a walk down the stream and put up 3 mallard and shot 2 so a good day was had in testing conditions .
