I'm pretty sure mine is Belgian made (based on the certificate above) but if there's a way to tell for sure by looking at the gun I'll be happy to examine mine and let you know. I'd never heard of the Black Gold model before so I can only comment on the obvious differences in appearance based on a couple of quick google searches right now: the Black Gold has what looks like an adjustable trigger, and I suspect therefore it might have a slightly wider rib than mine (I saw another 525 once which had an adjustable trigger, and it had a wide rib). The Shooting Gazette review does suggest improvements in the engineering of the newer Belgian guns compared to the original Japanese models, but I'm neither knowledgable enough about guns, or a good enough shot to be able to appreciate those differences. I think the black model is a handsome gun!

I bought mine on 03/09/2009 and it's had less than 1,000 cartridges through it - probably more like 600-ish (3 rounds of clays, and about 10 driven pheasant days on a very small syndicate shoot (30 bird days). It's never had a steel cartridge fired through it; we were instructed by our shoot captain to always have steel shot in our pockets, for when we were shooting the drive next to the pond, so everyone bought a couple of boxes. My two boxes are still intact!

I think even the miroku made ones are proofed in Belgium. Black gold is a 525 sporter with briley chokes I believe. If yours is narrow rib and non adjustable trigger its probably a game model as that makes sense being light weight. Same mechanically up until the very newest ones I believe

Thanks for that WJ. I should probably add that that this model doesn't have auto-safety, which I believe is another indicator of its purpose as a game gun...

Thanks also for that Chuck - I stand corrected. In fact I've just found another review (here) which confirms its Japanese origin, and describes the difference in rib width between the sporting (10mm) and game (6mm) versions.

Clays guns dont have auto safety game guns do... generally but easily switched between the 2 with a small rod. Lovely looking gun if i had the cash spare i would be tempted....

Nice to have the belgian proof cert (i dont have that) but not belgian made sorry

Not bother I don't like auto safety guns, if its loaded it should only be be pointed in a safe direction only an open gun is a safe gun....

It's the sort of gun I would like to buy for my missus nice and light someone will no doubt buy it be patient nice alternative to a 20 bore
