steve_b_wales
I bought my Freelander 2 new in March 2008. It's only done just over 30,000 miles. The coolant/water in the radiator has never been 'changed' only topped up as required. Someone mentioned in my workplace that it should be drained/flushed out, and refilled. What are your thoughts on this.

al4x
In theory its good practice but generally its probably fine, have a look at the expansion tank and see what the colour is like. You can also test it for strength and depending on both its pretty simple to change
Paddy Galore!
yep, along with brake fluid every 3/5 yrs or so, after a while it stops working as it should, that and sludge build up can cause problems.
bedwards1966
It should be changed as set out in the maintenance schedule set out by the manufacturer. Antifreeze has corrosion inhibitors which are important, and these become ineffective over time - usually either 2 or 5 years depending on the type of coolant used. The color that you see in the tank doesn't tell you much, and the strength of it doesn't tell you if it's preventing your engine from rusting. Find out how often it should be changed, and find out what type of coolant it needs. Or leave it - I find FL's rarely live long enough for it to matter! Paul223
just checked the service schedule, renew brake fluid every 36 months, and coolant every 120 months
