alfa taf
I have a 2005 1600 Golf which has about 9000 kilometers on the clock. It drives as it should , but lately , and only when the engine is cold , when starting it makes a loud noise for a couple of seconds , a noise that can only be discribed like shaking a bucket of nails . Trouble is it does,nt do it all the time which makes it difficult to detect when taking it to a garage.I have changed the oil , but it made no difference. My question is - as I have lost the manual - does it have a timing chain , or a belt , and if a timing chain could that be the cause of the loud noise I get when stating the engine from cold.? Any ideas would be much apprechiated , as I am at a lose. Anthony. It,s 90000 and not 9000.Sorry. Vw are usually very good sounds a bit early for that sort of work The thing is , I had the car from new , and in fact this is the 4th WV I had in the last 20 years , as I always thought they are very reliable , and it never missed a service. Well, thank you all for your suggestions , I,should know by next week as I have arranged to take it in the main agency . Hope not a Bank buster.!! Anthony. philm
Dual mass fly wheel. Try YouTube for what it sounds like and check prices before you go to main dealer!
alfa taf
Well after visiting the main dealers and a couple of local garages , it was pronounced that the couse of the loud noise is the timing chain playing up. Well here comes the funny part. The main dealers quated about 1500 euro , one of the local garages about 600 euro , and the third one suggested I should forget all-about it , and wait till the noise can be heard EVERY time I start the engine . I think I.ll probably do just ,and hope it will not lead to a major catastrophe.!! Thank you all for your suggestions.
