njc110381
When you apply for a certificate, do you get a refund if you fail the checks, or do they only cash the cheque when they are happy? I think I read on here somewhere that it's a good sign if this happens? I'm trying not to be excited in case I'm wrong, but it's not working very well! Is it a good thing, or routine? They cash the cheque in order to proceed with the application. If for some reason your application is refused you will get a refund of the full ammount. luckytrigger
Old bill cashed my cheque within a week of receiving it but my appplication still took 16 weeks to process Hope yours doesnt take that long!!
VicW
Nic, I don't know if you get a refund if your application fails but the cheque is cashed very early on in the proceedings because if it bounces then that is as far as the application goes.A friend of mine accidently sent a rubber cheque with his renewal, his employer failed to transfer his pay to his bank account one month, and he got his cheque returned with one hell of a snottogram from the licence office.Things were only smoothed over when the employer phoned the licence office and explained that it was their fault not my mates. njc110381
That's a shame. At least it didn't bounce though! I'll just have to wait and see what happens by the sound of things. I hope it doesn't take too many months though, there's a huge gang of pigeons at the farm and I can't keep them down with the rifle
16 Bore
Nick, How long is it since you put your application in? must be a few weeks now? Ian
njc110381
I put the application in about a month ago now. I've had a letter to say they've received it, but no visit date as yet. As far as I know they haven't been in touch with my countersignature either. I'll just have to be patient. It's Neil by the way, that j does look a lot like an i but it's not supposed to! 16 Bore
Sorry Neil, I apologise. I knew it was a while ago !!! They never did contact my countersigniatory, so I wouldn't read too much into that. My FEO made a comment about other FEO's in Gloucestershire not being as efficient as him and did mention about sickness rates in other areas. I would give it another month and if you still haven't heard anything then perhaps consider giving them a ring? Ian
njc110381
I need to get on to them sometime anyway, as my countersignature has moved house! I might just leave it, they will contact him before they visit so he can tell them. The contact number is the same. Where abouts in Gloucestershire are you roughly? Dunkield
I'm just hoping I don't get a refund with a "no chance mate" letter Phone them up, just say you are wondering how it is going, if you don't they may think you aren't in any particular hurry. I phoned HQ a week after sending all my stuff in, genuinely just ensuring it got there ok, but they took that to mean I was chasing and my FLO rang me to make an apointment a couple of hours later! The whole thing tooks just over 2 weeks start to finish, but then TVP are supposed to be some of the quickest in the country
pin
I reckon the NW London team must be up there with the fastest, I think it was a day under 3 weeks start to finish, and that was with a delay of 4 days that I added faffing about taking a bedroom to bits before I installed the cabinet. I would definitely call them, you are paying for a service so I think you are all right asking how its going. I know that if they are busy and have tried your reference and couldn't get him/her you might have just gone back to the bottom of the pile... When I was going through the process I remember my FLO wanted to speak to someone I had shot with, so I got them to call him which probably quickened things up.. njc110381
I've calmed down a lot over the license thing now, it's been long enough for me to stop stressing and get used to the fact that thinking about it will only drive me mad so I'll give them some time. I went to one of my local dealers the other day to try some guns for fit, but apart from that I've just left it to see what happens. To be honest, I don't know whether to be confident or not. How much influence does the FEO have over the chiefs final decision? I'm hoping it's a lot, because if it's done just from my record, I'm in the **** to put it bluntly! I'd really like to get a good grilling when he comes round. The more he pushes me around and gives me grief over what I've done, the more chance I have to prove to him that I'm an ok bloke. If he just turns up, looks at the cabinet and leaves, I don't think he'll get chance to figure me out
bigbeno
My licence took 14 weeks from start to finish although the FAO had issued the certificate 4 weeks before i actually received it. I rang my local police hq and the very next day i had it in my hand there is no harm in ringing and enquiring about your progress.
dazzyboi
They cashed my cheque within a week too...Think this is standard procedure.
