just a quick question..

ive got about 800-1000 acres of rough hill farm that i shoot over, very patchy land with brambles tall grass and so on...but quite flat, its open moorland but no heather.

i was thinking about getting maybe 6/8 shooters together and haveing a few fox drives to push out any foxes..i shoot a few under the lamp on this patch but fancy a drive or 2 on it..

whats the best time to do it??

Rich.

Do it when the cover is dry, as contrary to popular opinion Foxes often prefer to be above ground when its dry in cover. The hounds should mark any fox that goes to ground and this can be sorted after the fact. Call on your local gun pack, forget DIY , few mates and some mutts aint gonna be nearly as productive and can prove dangerous. I like September personally as regards numbers

After they are out of the earths, in the late spring/early summer. You could do it this time of the year but they will run to earth and need digging out.

this is when we do them as well, you want to time it with decent weather and when the cubs are venturing a little further afield. We have no dogs out and just walk them with the walking guns taking other vermin at the same time. Ours is timed so its after the shooting season and before cover gets too well advanced and before poults go down. Usually Late April early may and we usually pick up a few.
