what powder for 1oz 1-1/8oz steel

er...

you can get away with alot less than than 1oz and 1,1/8 oz steel loads. steel is completely different, the shot count on those are way higher than norman loads and a #6 steel wouldnt be my first choice. maybe my second, but not my first.

there are loads available using vectan A0 for 24g steel cartridges that have a decent speed. i would suggest you load those. also uk4 / us5 shot is pretty decent on birds.

yeah, A0 can push 24grams steel at 1500fps gaurenteed with A0. you can also shoot 28g and 32g loads. but dont expect decent speeds with the latter loads without getting into HP steel criteria.

its a nice cartridge really, at those speeds and uk#4 / US#5 should be a great shell.

i would either use the csd078 - BP24 type wad or the wad i`ve been using at the moment is a lbc24.

i have just proofed a load with the csd078 / bp24, but i am intending to use the LBC24 more.

have you found any load data?

If you dont mind the cost longshot powder is stunning in a 23/4" case with 7/8oz loads 1600fps with very good patterns use 3mm shot for pigeon rook and teal 3.25 mm will kill any duck to 40yds pm me if you want data I shot a limit of duck of shep whites with this load the last time i took it out .Another big plus is you can load the small shot and longshot powder through the charge bar and bushings which speeds reloading up no end

cheers for now Nick

I tested two out of three loads this morning due to my auto stopping working ??? dont know whats matter with it. The loads that i pattened was longshot and Ao. Boty were at a good 30 yrds with a 30" ring. I did shoot a tad high on them but not to bad i used mod steel choke which looking in my choke book is 0.2 extended. Both loaded up with 24g of 3mm steel.

Oh! Thanks for that! I was gonna buy some, but think I will give it a miss now.

Both the longshot and the AO loads are good fast light steel loads. And in some steel loads i think go to fast and blow patterns but these two seem to ok and i will be hammering the woodys with them thanks to the generous chaps that gave me the recipe top blokes :thanks::good:

PS All the best in 2013 and shoot straight :shoot:

i try to limit loads to 1500fps. and use bigger than average shotsize.

from 1500fps + its just too expensive or changes the ballance off the load to too light, not enough shot.

uk fowler

do you find that load with longshot is a dirty load quiet alot of crud in barrel.

but having said that the AO was but not as bad. But you sertanly know when you let lose with the loudshot longshot lol good loads though cheers :good:

yep there is a bit of dirt off them but they work great dont forget there 200fps faster than the AO load so yes they are loud try them both in the field I would be interested in your results
