davo
Ess bitch, 12 weeks old, she's just passed her two week period after her innoculations, so decided to take her a short walk in the woods. Got back in and she's ******** out crying biting her back pads and scrapping her feet across the floor. I've washed her feet and removed a small thorn from a pad but, its the other back foot that seems to be giving her pain/irritation, there are no visible signs of thorns or cuts. Is it possible due to the pads on puppies feet being soft that she has stung them on nettles or something similar? Any ideas tips etc, anybody else encountered this sort of thing? Will be keeping her on the grass and out of the woods for a while longer I think!!
new to the flock
I think it is a very good bet that your pup has managed to run through some nettles, or thistle down. If it is nettles the sting will run its course or you could try a bit of baking soda and warm water if you have jewel weed growing in the area, break some off and rub that directly onto the pads. Jewel weed, also known as Spotted Touch Me Not, or Impatiens capensis removes the sting immediately. It also works on mosquito bites. Slipster
NTTF This happened to my Springer and as soon as i got home i tore some of the freshest dock leaves i could find (anti histermine)and rubbed them until the juices came out and then applied this to her feet. AHHHHHH came the reply, instant calming of one very irritable pup Slipster

al4x
We've had this with our Jack Russels, the only real advice is to walk them more on roads etc to harden the pads up, We moved house this year and have a nice walk into the back garden but through a nettle infested footpath. This was a problem to begin with but now since more road walking they happily dance through the nettles with no problems at all.
davo
Thanks for the replies, she settled down after an hour or so, It was rather strange to watch and a tad worrying at the same time, never seen that kind of reaction before, You live and learn as they say. Thanks again.
