MM
Not at all, i can go all night. What was the first question? What birds are on your badge? Lets see!! Are they wigeon or gadwall?
Paul223
If you can't see what's ridiculous I can't be ***** to point it out to you. There's experience and experience that's what makes me such a Ninja. Do you know what the bird is on my badge? Or can't you find it in your book i think the point is i knew what it was before Phil raised his gun, thats all that matters, i might not have remembered what it was called because i had a mental block, but i knew Phil (who was 2 or 3 yards to my side) was ok to raise his gun to them . . . . end of! Yep. End of for me as well. I started out defending the OP but I'll stick to Wildfowling in future. You can't help those who won't be helped to be fair i think most would have settled their minds about here get over yourselves fellas, it was quite obvious the duck that were all around us were wigeon from the whistles / calls, now Phil needs a little helping hand identifying them yes but sometimes without being there in among the sights and sounds it is hard to do, we all have to gain real time experience and I'm sure Phil will now pick out a wigeon whistle from the teal, and in time the mallard quacks from the gadwell ........... i had a bit of brain freeze out in the 'field' and could not for the life of me recall the name of the duck, thats why Phil got confused which i think says a lot about you

I'm guessing you can and do looking at your post count. Doesn't leave much time for anything else does it. Like I said there's experience and experience. Terry P
Not sure if i'm permitted an opinion as i'm not sure if i'm one of the ones on here that the op and friends are far more experienced than. But I'll risk it, firstly we all have made mistakes i'm sure but to ridicule members who raise concerns is a little sad. Phil should not have put a photo of the duck up if he was not sure of what it was. How paul could have brain freeze on a wigeon is puzzling, you knew it was ok to shoot but could not remember its name???. MM's comment about all this about a dead bird shows lack of concern and respect for our sport as its mistaken identies plastered all over open forums that do us fowlers no favours what so ever. Magman clerly nows his stuff as he knew what it was without even seeing the bloody thing, yet paul and Phil could not with it in the hand. Just my observations experienced or not. Phil will i'm sure learn for this and i'm glad you enjoyed it fella.

Alfieri
Sorry all for butting in. If Phil sends pm's me his address I am sure I have our clubs test papers with silhouettes and different sizes etc. which I am happy to send h to help him ID quarry. I found the best way to I'd ducks is to learn their shapes, sizes and calls, yes their colours are important but if you can't I'd them in the dark how do you know what you are shooting at. Peter Marshall
Does BASC still run the Proficiency Award Scheme (PAS). That was a good course for novice fowlers. The PAS is now a National Qualification by NPTC and is called the 'Level 2 in Principles of live quarry shooting' available at good agricultural colleges. Big Al
The PAS is now a National Qualification by NPTC and is called the 'Level 2 in Principles of live quarry shooting' available at good agricultural colleges. When I first started wildfowling, the course was compulsory (through BASC) for all new members. The test included lots of things including quarry recognition in flight / silhouette etc. Ah the old days. I sound like an old ****.
