calling pinks

What I do is mix it up a bit so a wink then a chatter pause chatter then wink wink or just a chatter when you see them coming to you. It is difficult sometimes and it does not always work watch the birds as they come in and try diffrent things sometimes silence helps once they start coming down to you its all hit and miss and trial and error. Experiment with it. But I find if you can get calling and try and make it sound like more then one goose calling from your pattern mix it up and make it sound like the whole or most your pattern is calling back ect. Hope that helps. Or watch some of the videos on youtube.

Cheers Chris :good:

I called a few skiens over me a couple of weeks ago. In one of the skiens, 2 birds came down totally committed,(although the rest were only 30 yards up anyway). But this is the first time I've properly managed this.

Currently I have been mixing between a 'chatter' and a 'wink wink' as you mentioned.

Cheers for the help!

As I said it is all trial and error. Diffrent things work at diffrent times. But its learning that fine line between over calling and under calling. Each skien will react diffrently to each calling style its a case of practise and experiment. Which call are you using? I have 2 one a dj call and a solway one which I messed with and is ideal for calling them at very long ranges and strong winds but ideal for the chatter call as it is louder for when the geese are 80-100 yard out.

Call like hell to attract their attention but once they have seen the 'coys I keep dead quiet.

Unless you have a hide in the middle of the pattern then it confuses them.

The sound is not coming from where the 'coys are.

If you are with my friend David from up near Kings Lynn it is all different.

He doesn't use anything other than his mouth and fingers and they come and land on his head!

Don't think he ever uses decoys - Doesn't need to.

He's like the Pied Piper of the goose world.

Received and answered - That's him!

He is not like the Pied Piper...he IS the pied piper :good:

He was my mentor and the one who proposed my membership some 35 years ago when I first started shooting the Wash. If there is a better Wildfowler and a nicer guy I have yet to meet him.

We were out this morning on the decoys and what I find what works for me best is call to get there attention and if you pull them maybe call a few times more then stop once they have committed and just watch them come in, many a time we have geese landing right in to the decoys its a magical sight seeing big skeins cup up turn and the first goose turn then that single goose can pull the whole skein in with there paddles down and wiffling if there up a height, even small groups can be almost on top of you by just calling once, but it doesn't work all the time geese are geese and sometimes you think your doing something wrong and you call all you want but they just bypass you and fly straight on. please don't think I shoot big bags I have a big respect for the pinks and love getting out there amongst them even when we have good days every goose is always snapped up by someone.

I call the geese.....every swear word in the book and those that are not in the book too.....If anyone cares to be within 100 yards of me you will see how well I can call them, you will get the shooting and I will watch them go either side of me. You will learn some choice words too !!
