Nicholas Bottoms
It has been said that shooting over rape in winter is one of the hardest forms of pigeon shooting. My Dad and I were out today and had several. As to what is normally grown all depends on what was in last year. Last year alot of the land we shoot was pea's whereas now it is rape. For this summer I will be looking at making sure I have all my equipment in my bergan and I know how to get my hide up as quickly as possible. I will also be experimenting with new patterns and seeing what works but of course it all depends on the conditions on the day. I have as of today got a new gun which I christened today and am happy using it on the pigeons. Hope this is of help, Good luck mate. Nicholas Bottoms
This summer I am presuming it will be spring rape and wheat. Try and find out when your Farmer will be drilling the crop in, that will be a VERY fun time of year. Chances are he will not plant the same crop as he did in the winter. If you really want to know just ask him, presumably he'll know.
Sx3shot
Lol I'm sure he will..yes I was just asking so I could search tonight for tips ect for the different crops..so drilling is the next buzz lol in spring ..hopefully will be better then this winter rape as 1 shot and there gone.. I think I could of done with at least 4-5 dead woodies so I could of least get them up on my magnet/flapper/floater but was Decoying today with just 10 pigeon shells !! Nicholas Bottoms
Yes and when it all went quiet I went for a walk around the hedgerows and got them moving again. We had a good day in all though.

TJ91
No don't shoot em out of trees at night. Stand in the woods (if you have permission in any) on an afternoon and shoot them as the come to roost Edited February 3, 2013 by TJ91

TaxiDriver
Ask your farmer where he gets them, (he might even give you some) Or at least he should be able to tell you where to get them locally.
pboro shot
come winter i like to put out as many deeks rotarys flappers, bouncers as possible the lot, think how the birds are feeding in 100 + flocks so if they see there mates feeding they useally come have a look if not try and join them i dont bother with dead birds anymore i just put hyperflaps on the magnet and bouncers then add a few flappers as i shoot birds most of the birds in winter are shot at 30 Yds + say 40% decoy properly
lee-kinsman
Go out and look at which crops are where, if you can't identify them ask the farmer to confirm it. Best way to learn is to simply get out and watch what the birds are doing and decoy according to there behaviour. Take a small note book and note the date especially for when the birds are roosting in trees, flighting to roost, feeding on while berries such as hawthorn and Ivy. It will take you a few seasons to learn how to guess what the birds are going to do with some accuracy. Its great fun learning though.
