Lesbanim
Well, things have all gone tits up and I have to move out of our nice country cottage and into a one bedroom flat on my own. I haven't found anywhere definite yet but a couple of the places I'm looking at seem to have no internal cupboards at all. Are there ways of hiding a cabinet in a home like this or am I going to have to avoid places where there's no viable cupboard? Pickings are slim at the unemployed end of the housing market and I will probably have to move before I find a job. Life is pretty sucky right now. Big Mat
I built a cupboard around mine, think it cost about £20 in wood to do it.
HDAV
no need for it to be "hidden" just out of site to casual visitors i.e. not visible from ground floor window or from front door if you did want to disguise it then you can just cut the back out of a cheap cupboard/wadrobe and put it round it. IF you are looking at bedsit type places then behind the door would work and just put a blanket over it or similar. If it is a short term home then with all the faff of the bolting cabinet in etc you could eiother ask a friend with SGC or local RFD to store them for you? PS Hope things work out for you Edited February 16, 2013 by HDAV
bedwards1966
As said by HDAV, it just needs to be out of sight of casual visitors. Don't put it in the lounge, stick it in the bedroom and you're fine. There is no need to go too far with these things.

JustJon
Breakdown cabinet inside an ikea cupboard and drilled through into wall.
Paul T
It doesn't even have to be upright - you can lay it on it's back and bolt to the floor if that helps??
T-Bolt94
If you only have one gun, I am fairly sure that UK Law (Not NI Law however) allows the use of a trigger lock with a steel cord which could be attached to a metal ring in the wall or a bed or some other solid object, perhaps others could clarify this? HDAV
Gun clamps are legal for a single firearm but a cabinet is much better. NO NEED to HIDE it, just "out of site to casual visitors" ie someone knocking on the door.
Lesbanim
That all helps a lot, I currently have 2 guns which will eventually go back to my ex-father-in-law and I'm going to cheer myself up with a new shiny (or maybe even 2!) very soon! So I definitely need a cabinet and I reckon I'll probably go with the hiding it with a cupboard approach. Thanks very much everyone. One more quick question, would there be any difference in the rules if I was living above a pub? I mean straight upstairs from the bar not just a flat above a pub! Its down to who has access to the area besides yourself (staff/customers/landlord) etc and if the police/FEO viewed it as an additional risk (dodgy pub? dodgy clientele?) Lesbanim
Its down to who has access to the area besides yourself (staff/customers/landlord) etc and if the police/FEO viewed it as an additional risk (dodgy pub? dodgy clientele?) I see, it's a quiet pub in a nice area so I don't think there'd be a problem on that front. It's fairly unlikely I'll be going there anyway, the flat is virtually derelict it was just an idea as it's about the only possible way I could stay in my village. Thanks again for your help.
