Byrnsie44
Quick question, buying a hawke panorama for the 17hmr, For this sort of range shooting would you recommend a Map 6 reticle or a 1/2 mildot? All the best Joe
Blunderbust
For the 17 HMR a 1/2 MD will do you just fine. Once the set up is zeroed then get to know what the impact point is for the relevant dots at the desired ranges, job done.

Byrnsie44
Infact I stuck for choice between the panorama and the mtc mamba, any ideas or are they pretty similar in performance?
actionman1
Infact I stuck for choice between the panorama and the mtc mamba, any ideas or are they pretty similar in performance? Both the MTC and Hawk will White out in the late evening ( looks Milky) even if turning the Mag right down , if you are only using the rifle in the daylight with no strong light coming at you they will be fine. But i used to shoot rabbits in the last hour or so of daylight and found both makes unusable. I swapped to and old White tail classic and never had a problem. Good glass will give you an extra half hour of shooting at the end of the day.
bicykillgaz
I wouldn't say a WTC had better glass than the newer hawke scopes. You do generally get what you pay for though although I find optimate scopes punch above there weight, I've gone from a meopta variable back to an optimate 6x44 and haven't had to turn down any shots at dusk/dawn or under lamp. sitsinhedges
I think that you only have problems with the MTC whiteing out if you're looking towards low sun on an evening. The glass isn't all that special to be honest but the reticle is very good for extending your ranges
V8 90
I have had several Hawke scopes on various rifles & have never had 1 white out - I had an MTC Viper on my Hmr that used to white out every evening along a certain Woodside as did my old shooting buds Nighteater. Byrnsie44
Well the panorama is £150 and the MTC is £190, so you're saying I'll get just as good performance with the hawke?
V8 90
I would say better - purely from my own experience.

chrisjpainter
Reading this with interest as my Mamba's whiteout problems are starting to get me vexed now! Are there any other options people would recommend other than Hawke and the WTC's? I've found it's not just in the evening, it's both morning and evening, particularly at this time of year when the light isn't strong at the best of times
