Stratts
Spent last night after work fixing up the XT and it went pretty well. Whipped the old hatch off and sorted the wiring, after having to dismantle most of the rear trim to get at the connections! Took off the bumper and used a heat gun at work to soften and re-shape to a half decent standard. It'll need a bit more work but at least it doesn't foul the rear hatch. Still a bit of work to do coz the hatch is a slightly different colour and needs spraying, the inner bulkhead needs a pull and the bumper needs spraying, but a mate who does body repair (& is very good too!!) will do it all for £140! So for less than the excess was going to be I've done the lot!! Happy days!!
jgguinness
Happy days mate. Thats a very good price to repair the bumper, prep and paint said areas. As you say, all for less than the excess and no blemish on your record. Jonathan
Stratts
Yeah I'm dead chuffed tbh I have to do my bit and de-badge the tailgate and remove the trim, but my time costs nowt! I was going to get some sticky trim tape of some sort to protect the top of the bumper anyway so that'll hide some of it too.

station
Well done you - looks good I'm involved in the accident repair industry and what you have done is what so many others are doing due to policy excesses, and premium hikes. The bigger insurance fed bodyshops are feeling the pinch, where as the small to medium guys are keeping prices sensible and reaping the rewards. Now just avoid them jumping trees ! Stratts
I can see where the decent smaller body shops must be doing well coz start to finish that only took me about 3hrs, with a hand from my dad to hold the hatch, and I had to figure out how it all went together. My mate can't do mine until April coz he's booked up solid!!
