glb8686
As a new shooter I am obviously just starting to acquire bit and bats of what i need. I was looking at shooting jackets as its still a bit cold out but I dont think i can bring myself to spend £100+ on a jacket i'll only use for a few months till summer time then need to go buy a vest when it gets too warm. So my question is, do i bother with a jacket now or just get a vest and chuck it on over my fleece/softshell until next winter? Whatever the answer, could you suggest a vest or coat from your experiences? Forgot to add, I will be shooting a mix of sporting and skeet. TrapFiller
Get a skeet vest and wear a fleece underneath that's all I do and it doesn't affect my mount.
glb8686
That's good to hear. Been looking at the Browning vests, they look pretty good
TrapFiller
Depends on how much you willing to pay, I got a top gun one for Christmas last year 45 quid but some of the browning ones can top 70 quid

matone
+1 for Musto gear,it seems to be practical and certainly wears well. I`ve found Seeland gear to be very good value too. Edited March 1, 2013 by matone

jackinbox99
Get a skeet vest and wear a fleece underneath that's all I do and it doesn't affect my mount. Thats exactly what i do. Raised a few eyebrows when I first turned up a new shooting ground in a hoodie with a skeet vest on top, but once they realised I wasnt actually some hoodie chav they settled down a bit. glb8686
Buy a decent coat, there will be other winters. Get what your saying, but if i spend £100 quid+ on a coat now, i'll have to buy a vest in a couple of months. Vest first means i can hang on for a coat till it drops cold again. joecash
if your shy of spending £100 or so on a decent jacket to keep u warm, whats your budget for shooting? lots of peeps i know spend £60 to £100 every week end on clay shooting - so £100, in the overall scheme of things, is neither here nor there. A good shooting jacket will last for years and keep you warm as toast. Footwear is a different story u can spend hundreds on footwear and still end up with cold feet - if anyone has found the real solution to keeping their toes warm i'd be delighted to know the solution!!
