chippy18
Does anyone know a positive answer as to if a car will fail its MOT because the check engine light comes on sometimes. My lads Trooper has a intermittent fault that sometimes throws the light on. It's not an actual fault and will be corrected but not got time before test. It may not come on but Sod's law say it will. Keep getting told conflicting answers. Cheers

Chr15j
Soon any fault light will be a fail. Especially airbag, abs, traction control, plus general check light, oil etc
neil82
had an e-mail from vosa today, all the rfr`s (new ones) are coming in 20th this month, special notice not come through yet to confirm it, best get your motors booked in now if you`ve got faults and take the loss of a few months
chippy18
Does that mean after the 20th it will be a fail then? Cheers
neil82
looks that way, take a code reader with you that will erase faults, plug it in just before test and hit erase, if the fault is `second trip detected` this may knock it off long enough for the test
StuC
Or investigate and rectify the fault?

I went in the local just mot centre yesterday and was told its only a advisory and is certainly not changing this month. Cheers The legislation to enable the changes required under Directive 2010/48/EU to the MOT test for Classes 4, 5 & 7, will come into force on 20 March 2013. Plans are now underway to enable the items (added to the inspection manuals in January 2012), which are currently being advised, to become fail items from 20 March 2013 where defects are found. A range of informal and formal communications is in place to ensure that everyone who needs to be aware of the changes will be informed. Other changes affecting the MOT test, include minimum service brake efficiency requirement for (passenger vehicles with no more than 8 passenger seats increasing to 58% first used on or after 1st September 2010 and amendments to the imbalance requirements (30% across each individual axle) are to take place in July. The final change adding the country of registration to the test certificate will be in place for 2014. this is direct from vosa, as i said earlier the special notice has not been sent out yet
