Im looking to get either a Baikal or Bretton and gaucher 410 . have read different reviews and the big thing some people say is the Bretton has a serious reduction in range due to cylinder choke . Anyone have first hand experience of these ? Im using it for night and day rabbit shooting and try at pigeons too . Thanks. L.

The pedretti is apparently the quietest from the reports ive read. Mainly because the moderator is full length, whereas on the baikel & mossberg ones its a bit smaller. 2nd hand they seem to hold their value, normally £200->£250 for the single barrel baikel or pedretti. The mossberg is a pump action 3 shot and is usually twice the price.

Ive the mossberg one, and its pretty quiet although it does depend upon where you are shooting it. In the middle of a field its like a sneeze noise, but if your up against a hedgerow or buildings then its pretty loud as the noise rebounds.

Range wise... mines full choke and will smoke clays into dust. Id not be happy shooting anything more than 30 yards away with it. I initially bought it for rabbits & thought it would be ideal if a magpie, crow or pigeon happened to fly over. But in reality i find myself just using my .22 air rifle more for the rabbits and the mossberg hasnt been out of the cabinet in a while.

Thanks Rich , I gather you find the range is good up to what distance ?

Depends really 40ft on pigeons 50ft on rats...but remember its only a 410 so no long range shooting as its not got the power...more of a farm yard ratter or squirrels in trees... But that's just my own opinion..

I had both the pedretti & baikal but preferred the baikal which I thought was a better build. I had problems with the pedretti due to the firing pin coming dislodged in the action. A couple of my mates also had the same problem with theirs!

Only downside with the baikal is it does not fold.

I picked up a Baikal single shot hush from a guy on here. Cost me £150 or thereabouts. It's the version which has a 9-10" moderator rather than the full shrouding. It's pretty quiet with Eley hush power extra long. Although the odd cartridge catches me off guard every now and then. I'm pretty **** at shooting it to be fair. I've had a few close pigeons in flight probably 20 yards. But I have problems getting the aim right (or the range) when shooting bunnies on the ground. Though have had a few. Still I haven't used it that much and will still be taking it out Monday night to get some more practise. My mate has a 12 bore hush which is a bit louder but I have had much more success with it. Bigger cartridges plus its a pump so 3 shot. ******g ugly though...Mossberg synthetic stock. Like something out of Terminator.

I have a Baikal 20 g. And a Bretton and gaucher 410

the Baikal is good for rabbits but very long and they tend to shoot low

so you have to aim over there head

the Bretton is very light and short I have shot a few pigeons with it in the woods

410 ammo is not cheep but you can reload

20g eley hushpower is not the best I think gamebore hushpower is the best 30g 5 shot

Not much on the Bretton then I take it and the Baikal shoots low . Think I will stick with my air arms s410 for rabbits it has a long range and v. accurate .
