Highlander
I'd discount badger...they're powerful beasties and would have most likely wrecked the whole trap. Also that holes nowhere big enough for a badger, they dig like a JCB on crack Mink, possibly, rat possibly? something small anyway and no I don't think it's a fox either. Lay down some white powder (flour etc) and see if you get any discernable prints. What about the hare? How was it eaten? Nibbled or ripped? Look for the clues. Quist
Were Rabbit Probably Mink. They're extremely agile.
Cranfield
Almost certainly mink, or feral cat.
Suffolk shooter
I suspect mink, rat or ferret. I have seen my mates ferrets do this time and time again, when he puts them into a run whilst he cleans the cages out. It doesnt take them long either, and they can climb extremely well. Suggest you put mesh on bottom to stop them escaping, when caught.
Poacher
definately not a badger........ probably Mink or maybe a wild cat

Ferretboy111
Im surprised you havent got mesh on the base of the trap aswell, on my magpie traps ive put it on the floor aswell. Id say mink, you should get a trap for mink around that trap as it will sure to return. Alex

Teal
hi John, when I was running a ladder trap this summer I found it important to put wire on each side of the opening, to ensure they do not climb out up the wire. Now you've got them coming in the opening doesn't need to be very wide at all. good luck
Frank
He'sssssssssssssssss back. Little sod seems to come around dusk or just after dark. Anyhow, as for the hare it's been eaten (ripped) as opposed to nibbled like a rat would do. I tidied up the bait for the moment and put it into my Dad's metal Larsen trap within my own cage. I'm thinking of putting a floor into the cage alright. Dad reckons a mink would climb out of the cage, I don't as I don't see them being able to climb upside down, also if he could climb out then why burrow out. The couriers rang today looking for me, I reckon my Fenn traps will arrive tomorrow. Is that good timing or what? Until then I spread half a bucket of sand inside and outside of the hole to get some nice tracks fingers crossed. I may also see if I can borrow a mink cage trap in the mean time, I think a local lad has one he's not using if memory serves. Looking forward to catching my first mink Good luck sir. If you cant get a mink trap, ill bring one down, when i come ferreting. Hope you get him. By the way, mink are very good at climbing Frank. Frank
Your gonna have to stop that. I have a feeling though, them black hairs could be off a mink. Try a mink trap aswell and see what happens. Well built trap by the way. Frank.

Accept your loss Frank What you need to do John is keep hold of him for a few days, then when a reward notice goes up, sell him back to the owners
