Cosmicblue
http://www.ejchurchill.com/ej/default.asp?title=The-Classic&contentID=55 In a moment of complete madness having never shot a competition (or Registered round for that matter) I've entered the above event - nominating the 9.30 slot on Friday 7th June....is anyone from here going/been before? Any tips?
TIGHTCHOKE
I think you are very brave, I've shot this competition many times in past years. It's a goodun! You will need to take a drink or drinks round with you and everything else you might need. Plenty of cartridges, your chokes, weatherproof clothing et al. It will be a long day and you should get plenty of rest the night before and get to the ground in plenty of time to allow you to park and get ready without rushing. Some of the targets will be extremely rangy, probably further out than you thought possible on a clay shoot. Spend time watching those that shoot in front of you. You should be able to work out the pick up point for the targets. Good luck and have fun. T.C. Edited April 4, 2013 by TIGHTCHOKE
Dunkield
If it is the one that is held at Churchill's and West Wycombe you will be in nice surroundings if nothing else.
100milesaway
If you are going down the day before I would recommend you to arrive at lunch time to aquant yourself with the layouts , parking, and take a look at some of the targets. There will be tractor trailers to take the shooters onto the course , so tag a lift and enjoy the build up as well as the shoot. It is always worth watching some of the big hitters to pick up on how they do it and watch the ettiqutte so you don't feel a burke by going out of order or similar. After the first stand you will know who is shooting in front of you ,so make sure you are watching from the 2nd shooter area to make sure you know exactly where they are coming from. The squad always rotate so when it's your turn to shoot first always go for an early beak at that stand. Most of all enjoy your day.. from Auntie. Churchill
I shot it last year on day one when its open to the Armed Forces and Emergency Services, As said above there will be some very hard targets so get some practice in, and with a bit of luck it wont rain like it did last year. Relax and enjoy.
