A1Decoy
Brought some of the fridge magnets off ebay and they are great, should have made them myself! Empty shells are great for putting a clipper lighter in, fits perfectly (think this was said in a previous post). Nicholas Bottoms
I've always wanted to solder a lot of the brass heads together in a disc and make a clock that way. Just got to find the time.
FatherandSon
I used to turn a blank of wood and replace the plastic with the new wood to make key rings!
huffhuff
Just an update. I did some cufflinks for friends at Christmas (cheap pressies) . I did a mix of .410 and 28g as the 12's are just too big and don't look as good. I have refined the melting and solder process, plus changed how I fit and secure the backs. I bought some two part liquid resin that sets with a hard and domed, glass finish. I was worried the solder would oxidise over time and get shirts dirty! I'll get a picture up later. aris
Those look quite professional. What resin did you use - and did you put any varnish or laquer on them to prevent rusting/tarnishing? I see you can get gold plating kits quite inexpensively - that should prevent oxidation too. huffhuff
It's a two-part 'ice resin'. No varnish or laquer (it adds to the rustic look). If you want them shiny, a few wipes with some wire wool and they're sparkly.

Mentalmac
Do you remove the primer a bit so that it doesn't stick out so much to mount the cufflink blanks? I only say this as I'm not the worlds best at this type of thing but had some cufflinks where the top fell off so got two blanks and was going to knock up a pair of shotgun shell ones myself. Do you fill the entire base with resin to 'fill the void'?
huffhuff
Good question. It depends on the cartridge. I originally used Eley .410 and the primer didn't stick up too much so was perfect. But the new ones (can't remember make) stick up much higher (almost to the brass). I did try driling it but it ended up pushing the primer out. I used a small amount of araldite to stick the cufflink plate into position on the primer. Then the next day I filled about 2/3 with solder (adds some nice weight). Then the remaining 1/3 with resin. The ice resin 'self domes' so gives a nice polished look. Hope that helps... Do you remove the primer a bit so that it doesn't stick out so much to mount the cufflink blanks? Just need to get some of that resin you talk about. My MD is a Holland and Holland owner and loves their stuff, hoping he will be able to give me some used carts as I bett he uses them. Loverly jubberly. I quite like the grungy type effect, but if you wanted super shiny you could buff or pop in a jewellery tumbler (or somebody you know that reloads might have a tumbler for spent shells). Apply some clear laquer and it should keep. Ice resin; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ice-Resin-Jewellers-Grade-Crystal-Clear-Epoxy-Doming-Resin-Syringe-1oz-/261384308785?pt=UK_Crafts_JewelleryMaking_GL&hash=item3cdbb80831 You could also use some wax as somebody else has done on here (but I don't like the fact it may melt). Or, you could try melting the plastic hull/case and pour that in. Or like my first set, simply fill with solder (but accept it may oxidise at some point).
