The good thing about this time of year is the amount of tractor work being done.

What you tend to find is other weeds get disturbed and will germinate, you may find pigeon feeding on this new growth as well.

Bean stubble can bring good numbers as well, not wishing the year away but don't forget about the field.

On my friends farm they drilled about 40 acres of beans on Tuesday. The pigeons were on it whilst they were still drilling. I shot the field yesterday and couldn't see many bean on top, so assume that hey had cleared any left on top on Tuesday and Wednesday. They were a few hundred on yesterday morning when I arrived around 8am. The field will be left quiet today and I wil be back there tomorrow with my dad.

I wouldn't leave it too long before you have a crack at them.

Three fields of beans on one of my farms have gone untouched by the pigeons since they were drilled ten days ago. Considering that the farm has the latest technology in terms of drills etc there is a great deal of spillage and lots for the pigeons to have a go at.
