Northern Monkey
I know standards where used for Badgers & miniatures for smaller quarry, does anybody in the UK actually work them (obviously not on badgers)?
Big Mat
I believe they call working dachshunds " Teckels " and some people use them for deer tracking
Cockermax
Have a look at the website below. The working Dachshund are refered to as a Teckle. Seemed to be used for blood tracking deer amongst other things http://www.darswedteckels.co.uk/ Makes interesting reading.

Northern Monkey
Nice link, I thought Teckel was just another German name for them...
scotslad
Surprisingly popular as a tracking dog, can be a real handful to train, generally real hard headed little so and so's. On the continent they also use them for hunting and moving roe to be shot.
beany123
I've got a young bitch not been digging with her but she's been on the back of a few on top she found one in a old disused shed the other day ended up chasing the thing down the road about half a mile. Northern Monkey
My little dude came across a fairly fresh rabbit corpse down on the Hundred Washes, bearing in mind he'd never seen one before he went totally mental, in the end I had to throw it in the river to get him away from it... Big Mat
A friend of mine who keeps a few miniature ones has told me she often seen them killing rats when they come across them. The dogs are smaller than my shoes!
Northern Monkey
I believe the Americans use minis for prairie dogs, a mate of mine who had a mini (widget) chased a rat round his garden one day, the rat ended up jumping in the fish pond to get away from it, the dog kept it in there until it drown.. Amazing to watch..
rustybucket
I know of a few people who use em for tracking and wouldn't use anything else
Northern Monkey
Very interesting posts, my little dude is wirey as ****, gets totally overfed, can't get weight on him or tire him out, he's 12mths old, the other day I walked him down the Ouse Washes between the Delph & The Old Bedford rivers, After 5 miles he found a scent & took off like a spaniel in miniature, just a dot in the distance, fortunately after a few whistles he came back, makes sense.. Hayden
I have two mini's. One wire and one short haired. The short haired is as hard as nails and has a really good nose on her. Not that I've ever used her for tracking, but I've always thought she'd be very good at it.
