turbo33
With the wet weather putting an end to any thought of shooting today, I buried myself in the workshop, and set about making a Larsen trap. I'd been meaning to get on to this for a while. There has been the odd jay about all winter, but a few days ago 4 more appeared from no where along with anything up to 6 magpies :o They have been systematically working thier way up and down the hedges and its really got me going No safe backdrop for the air rifle...don't they know it!! So down to the timber yard. £11 for some 1"x1 3/4 batten, bit of 6mm threadbar and some lighter timber for the doors. I made it up in a couple of hours and then painted with some green stain/wood treatment( light patches are reflection from the flash). I'll fix the mesh tomorrow and work out a door. Just ordered some springs from fourteen acre, so with a bit of luck, by tuesday it will be up and running so look out bandits

I know what you mean you dont fancy knocking me one up mate do you,if so how much?...........DAZ With the time it took stitching on the wire and the rest of the fiddling, yes happy to knock you one up.........will be about 350 quid, plus postage Honestly, anything around £70 is good value, plenty on fleebay. What is the size of the box lengths please, they look about 3ft but I could be wrong. demonwolf444
How do you set the trap? i have seen them and dispatched birds in them but ive never set one?
turbo33
The doors are spring loaded into the down position with a piece of dowel/hazel cut in half but repositioned as one. Bit of a fiddle, but the idea is the bird drops down onto the dowel, which gives way and as the bird drops the door slams up closed...........hope that makes sense. rabbiter
im using heavy duty springs,on one side anyway, ,and a bungee on the other, the sprung door works great but the bungee is still quick enough, next ones will all be springs,i like your build though turbo33........................DAZ
