The Ghost
I just wanted to bring your attention to a nice little gun auction this week-end in Cockermouth, Cumbria. I know a few lads who have had some real bargains from it, not loads but a few I would have a go at if I was not 250miles away. Good luck to any that bid, I have no link to this site and do not have anything for sale in this auction. http://www.mitchellsantiques.co.uk/index.php/view-catalogues/current-catalogue/

THE PURCHASE PRICEThe buyer shall pay the hammer price together with a premium thereon of 17.5% + VAT at the rate imposed by law. It says "a premium of 17.5% PLUS VAT which is 20%" Edited April 16, 2013 by shaun4860
The Ghost
It says "a premium of 17.5% PLUS VAT which is 20%" What that means is if the hammer price was £100 you would buyer premium of 17.5% (£117.50) + vat at 20.00% (£3.50) = £121.00 total price. So you pay about 21% in total you only pay vat on the premium unless the seller of the item is VAT registered.
shaun4860
Well thats not how I read it but if you know something different then fair play,

Blackbart
I also wouldn't get too carried away with some of them estimates as a lot of them are silly low.
The Ghost
I also wouldn't get too carried away with some of them estimates as a lot of them are silly low. Most will go alot less than estimate, I have been to this sale a few times as lived in the area most of my life. You will get a shotgun for £10.00 or less? You will get a shotgun for £10.00 or less? I was more looking at some of the vintage fishing gear (something i used to deal in a lot ) some of those estimates are way low. You probably can get a shotgun for less than a tenner, in fact i have seen one sold for £2 at auction but i wouldn't have been the one to fire the first shot with it
