Do I need to list a moderator for the fac air rifle too? 4. What CF would you recommend for a first time applicant for foxes and deerstalking as i intend on booking a couple of days? 5. what would you recommend i put down for ammunition quatities, both buying and selling? 6. As for referees, do both have to be people with respectable (if thats the word) jobs or can one just be a character reference as in a friend? thanx in advance PS forgot to mention but my issuing force is cheshire. Anyone have any idea what they are like regarding firearms? whats the chances of an open cert from the off especially regarding the FAC air Edited April 18, 2013 by beesley121

Amazed
Ring up tomorrow with the farm names and check the clearance calibers for the land. As if any isn't cleared you can get the ball rolling on that now. Or you will be waiting for longer
Brown Sauce
Taxi driver is right about the minimum for deer being .243. No 5. I was granted for .22 and .17 buy 350 and hold 700. Recently .243 buy 100 and hold 200. To my knowledge you don't need to worry about selling amounts. Check out the basc website, they have a wealth of firearms information available. Good shot?
State calibres of all rifles and request mod for each separately. I can purchase up to 500 rounds of each calibre and hold 600 of each which is enough for my needs.Depends what your useage will be only you will know that. My referees where long standing neighbours, one a nurse and other self employed, both good standing members of the community. Open cert on first application is unlikely, but ask FEO anyway, nothing to lose.
Frenchieboy
Most of the questions you asked have already been answered but here are a few things for you to note: I have "Buy 250 and Hold 300" on my ticket for ammunition for both of my C/F Rifles (.243 and .222), which should be adequate for you but you will have to see what your office will allow. You will have to specify Calibre/Moderator for each rifle individually on the section where it asks what rifles you want to get (Part B Question 19 on the application form) I am not sure how Cheshire work but you might have trouble getting Fox for a Rimfire (.22LR or .17 HMR) - Many issuing forces will not allow RimFires (With the exception of the .22WMR) for fox but however some do. You will need to check up with your Firearms Office on this one! You say that you are thinking of booking a couple of day stalking to justify the C/F for Fox and Deer, they might want proof of booked days before they allow a C/F for deer unless there are deer on your existing permissions and you have permission to shoot them, and even then they might slap a "Mentoring" or "Accompanied" condition on the C/F - Again much depends on your FEO on that one. The minimum calibre for deer in England is .240 (unless you want to restrict yourself to Munties and CWD) so for Roe, Fallow, Reds, Sikas, etc you would need to be looking at something like a .243 minimum. Hope this helps. Good luck mate!
CharlieT
As you are applying for a FAC you will obviously have joined one of the shooting organisations, such as the Countryside Alliance or BASC. They all have staff available to speak with who can guide you through completing the FAC application form. I would suggest you phone them and ask for their expert guidance, they really are very helpful and after all that's what you pay your sub's for. Now that really is the best piece of advice given so far, and advice that all of us had overlooked. Well done Charlie T!
