Deerstalking and a day drey poking

Ey up pigeonwatchers, not posted for a while so thought i would share a couple of days with you.

 

I got this chap a couple of weeks ago. Tiptoeing down a hedgerow making ,my way to a meadow. Carefully glassing as i go in case i can spot a buck through the hedgerow foliage. I get to the end of the hedgerow without any damn pigeons or blackbirds giving me away and peek around the corner into the meadow and thank the gods of deerstalkers there is a buck out feeding some 120yds away. He is completely unaware as i take a prone position in the bottom of the hedgerow. I have a good look at him through the scope as dusk approaches alas he is standing awkwardly and i have to wait as the light fades.............. please take a 1/4 turn towards me, god bless that swaro scope i can still see him clearly.......................... yes!!!!!!!!!! nothing fancy and a solid thump into the heart and lungs and typical reaction to shot sees him collapse into the grass. Gralloch completed before it gets too dark and just got time for a quick pic. An excellent buck for the table.

 

out today with dead eye duck off here for a days drey poking after squizzes. We look after an area that has not been shot for squirrels for some time and there are alot of dreys. So don's brother is manning the lofting poles and don and i take up position either side of the 1st squirrel mansion. In go the rod and after a vigorous poking.................... right you lot thats the last double entendre!! a brace of tree rats burst for sanctuary. Me beretta claimed them both a nice right and left to start off, cue dons wailing that he got one of them, Ahem yeah right. We make our way through the first wood seeing little else. The next copse we walked round saw us surround another lofty mansion. As the lofting poles evict said sqizzy squatter it dashes past don who misses it clean, only for said evictee to dash down a tre trunk straight down a wabbit hole,,,,,, yep i kid you not. After much deliberation and merriment at aged companions expense we move on. Well i hope you are seeing a pattern here with your humble scribe knocking down squizzy squatters ably evicted by dons brother who proves himself a fabulous pokeroutererererer and don consistently missing with that girly 20 bore of his. Time is passing and lunchtime soon arrives and the bag is half full. A fabulous buffet is packed for us by dons good lady of cheese sandwiches with chutney and mustard followed by porky pies. Well suitably refreshed we move onto the last set of copses before home. I claimed another that was too high up for the rods to reach so it got a 12 bore eviction order which sent it spiralling through the air followed by what i presume was his bedroom. Don claimed to have shot another that promptly vanished down another rabbit hole...... HMMM!!!!!!!!!! We called a halt as the afternoon came to a close. A celebratory coffee and jam doughnut and time for a quick pic before home.

The previous time we went drey bashing a week ago he shot nowt, and being the gentleman that I am I let him take most of the shots.

 

Seeing his woebegone, crumpled face the previous week was too much for a true sportman to bear

 

And as for that Swaro scope that he enthuses about - I had to get it for him, as he could see ******* all through his previous optical junk.
