I've not had a sporttrack but I did have a fourtrak for a fair few years, basically the main difference being engines the sporttrak being petrol yet still a reasonable size does like petrol and as mentioned the engines aren't the most reliable. they also share the issue with fourtraks where rust is a big problem. Personally with the age they are now I would avoid the sporttrak definitely and the fourtrak I would only buy if I could check it very well for rust and treat it well. Your alternatives that are newer are vitaras and the likes which would to my mind make a better buy

Jumping on this thread a little...

A mate just offered me a sportrak. 1.6 petrol on about a p plate i think.

Was thinking of getting it as it seems cheap enough. i think it was 6months t&t and he was asking £600.

Not checked values on other sites yet so opinions would be welcomed.

Cheers

Edd

head gaskets go and they rot something chronic so really check it very well, don't expect to get 30mpg and a fair bit less if you put decent tyres on and take it off road. The thing to bear in mind is if much turns up in 6 months its then worth what you can punt it for on ebay or £100 as scrap

Had one until 2005 nice little runner, and i also had it during my bachelor days, for running around and going fishing shooting it was fine, but with the price of fuel at it is now i would not have one now. But it did the job i wanted it when i was at my fieldsports peak!
