mudpatten
Sorry to have to contradict a popular misconception. Figures provided by the British Trust for Ornithology show that there are significantly more wood pigeon around now than was the case in Archie Coates day. One of the most overlooked facts about the size of bags that he shot, and he had bad days just like the rest of us, but shot over a huge swathe of countryside, is that he was a very good shot and made the most of every opportunity which presented itself. Oops, richg has already said the above! Edited May 28, 2013 by mudpatten

Whitebridges
It's a great read. His missus, Pru Coats, has some of her recipes in the back of the book which are delicious.
