First go on the peas

Had a drive around today and saw a handful of birds on the peas at last.

Now I really should have let them build up , but as I share this farm with another shooter and do to the fact I was gagging to shoot some pigeon after a lean time I decided to give it a go even though I was not expecting much at all

So I decided to go old school with just a dozen shells and no gizmos

Got set up and in the hide loaded the auto and looked up to see two pigeon with wings set diving in , off to a great start with a nice left and right .

Reloaded and within seconds another bird straight in and cleanly killed , another half minute and a bunch of 5 or 6 again straight in a another left and right

So I am now thinking things are looking better than I was expecting , I was right first time after that mad first minute it slowed right up , but what little did come to the field decoyed very well.

I ended up with 23 pigeon and finished the day with a cracking left and right at a pair of jackdaws

Considering I have not been shooting much I was very pleased to get 25 head with just 27 shots.

I thought I would give you a fenscape from the hide rather than my normal pile of pigeon type photos .

I agree, it's about time you had a decent shoot.

As a matter of interest, by how much are the peas poking through the soil? I cannot see any green in your photo.

They have only just got the very tips showing , in fact when I looked yesterday they were not showing so I was quite surprised to find a few birds on them today.

There is another field up the road from this one and there was a 100 or so on it , unfortunately the farmer noticed them too and text me to say he would be getting bangers out tomorrow.

At least he is also putting me some potato boxes out as hides , as you can see from the photo decent backgrounds for hides are few and far apart here ! , having said that I have no problem just sticking my nets in the field if its not too windy , thats the other delight of fen shooting , when the wind blows there is not a awful lot to stop it !!
